HOW SOON AFTER YOU LOST YOUR MUCUS PLUG DID LABOR BEGIN? I HAVE HAD CONTRACTIONS FOR WEEKS AND I LOST MY PLUS THIS MORNING AND HAVENT GOT ONE CONTRACTION ALL DAY SO FAR. I WAS BETWEEN 3-4 CM AND 80% 37 WEEKS. WITH MY FIRST CHILD I DIDNT LOSE MY PLUG UNTIL AFTER MY WATER BROKE AND I WAS AT THE HOSPITAL (I WAS 3CM AND 70% EFFACED WITH MY FIRST WHEN I LOST IT). I ALWAYS THOUGHT WHEN YOU LOSS THAT ITS GOING TO BE TIME. I LOST IT ABOUT 630 THIS MORNING SO 4 HOURS LATER AND NO CONTRACTIONS....SOME BACK ACHE BUT THATS IT. I HEARD THE BABY SHOULD STOP MOVING WHEN LABOR IS CLOSE BUT THIS LITTLE GIRL IS MOVING LIKE CRAZY IN THERE TODAY.

I never lost a mucus plug I never lots one with any of my kids.

Getting close!!

Wow, maybe you are finally getting close!  I was enduced with my first, but I immediately went into labor after losing my plug with my second.  I thought I remember reading 24 to 72 hours labor will begin, but I was just looking online again and everything says losing the mucus plug isn't necessarily a clear-cut sign of labor.  Hopefully you are getting close!!

Labor

With our first I had lost my mucus plug, stood up from the toilet and my water broke, then 12 hours later she was out. With our second I was about a week overdue and they gave me Cervidil then Pitocin the following morning. Not long after they gave me the Pitocin I lost my mucus plug. They checked me after that and I was about 5cm dialated and ordered me an epidural and said they would be there in about an hour to administer it and that it should be about 4 more hours or so until the baby would come. Well, my water broke about 10 minutes later and less than 10 minutes after that Jake was born. So, I guess for me as soon as I lose that mucus plug I know the baby is coming very soon. Hopefully that holds true for you as well. Good luck!

onset of labor

I believe that labor should progess within 48 hours. I believe that I was told that if it had not than I needed to call the Doctor back because the mucus plug was an important factor at keeping out bacteria and stuff that could cause infection, on the other note I have heard some docs letting it goes two weeks.

But it sure sounds as if you are very close. You will have your little one before Christmas! Good Luck and Merry Christmas.

I had a backache starting the night before I had Bekka. She was born at 1:45PM the next day. I ended up with Placenta Aburption but the Doc told me that Backache was a sign of labor. HTH!!
