Does anyone know of any restaurants that will make changes to menu items for kids who are on wheat-free gluten free diets? I know Chick fil A will make grilled strips instead of breaded ones, but I get tired of taking my kids there everytime we want to go out.

We went through this with my daughter too. She was only wheat though so you might have to look a little more into it for the gluten. We were able to eat at culvers with her for sure. I would also check restuarant websites to view their ingredients and such. You can always call ahead and ask if they can special order, although I would ask for a manager. Also TGIFridays was pretty accomidating. I hope this helps and good luck!!!

My grandpa has Celiac Sprue, and has for as long as I can remember. I know that my grandma and him make their own bread and a lot of times he will bring bread with him. For the most part they eat just about anywhere. My grandma is very picky and always asks the waiter/waitress before ordering. She will explain his condition and if they don't know if something it gluten free they will usually ask. Their favortie reastuarant is Honkers. Most of the time they just order off the regular menu and then ask them to not put gravy on the potatoes or things like that. As far as fast-food restaurants, I know they go to Arby's, more than the rest. He will usually get a roast beef sandwich and then just not eat the bread.
My sister just started at St. Mary's last year and one of her roommates had the same thing. Before that I had never heard of anyone, other than my grandpa, who had this problem. And I guess it's getting to be more of a common thing because in the St. Mary's cafeteria they have a whole fridge/freezer full of seperate food that is all gluten free.

My sister in law is gluten intolerant, so she has issues when we go places. She usually orders from a regular menu unless they have a gluten free menu. I think it's become a lot more common these days. Some of her favorite things are burgers no bun, any kind of fish (not breaded), and mashed potatoes with no gravy. She can usually find anything on a restaurant menu that she can eat. I have never run into a waiter/waitress that it upset about the specific order. We even had to make a special order for her when we were at a banquet.
My husband came home today and told me that UNO's has a Gluten Free Menu. Granted the closest one is Merrilville, but I thought I'd at least let you know.
