What to do with the change?

I just finished sorting, counting and rolling over $230 worth of change! While it's nice to have "found" that much money we didn't realize we had, I started thinking maybe I should be actually using the change, rather than saving it all.
What does your family do with change? Do you try to give exact change at the stores, or do you save it all in a jar somewhere and save it for something special?

Change $$$
We put our change in large mug and when it gets pretty full, we go to our bank (TCU) and we cash it in. Typically, I just put it in our checking account. It's been a help a few times!

Change
We save all of our change into a box and then once a month we divide it between our two kids piggie banks once there banks are full they take them into the bank and cash it in and each child deposits there money into their own college saving accounts. Sometimes they save the change for a piece of candy.
wow!!
That is awesome you ended up with that much change! :) We had a big jar we were saving our change specifically for a mini weekend trip. Our camera ended up breaking so we cashed our change in early (we went to the coin sorter at the grocery store) and we ended up with just a little over a hundred so we ended up using it for a camera. In my opinion, since its money you didnt even realize you had (or had that much of) then you should go out and "splurge" on something :)
vacation
You and I think alike :) The grandparents are watching the baby, and we are taking Luke to Sandusky to Great Wolf Lodge (indoor water park) with some friends in September. Our room was only $130, so the change should just about cover most of the trip, or at least we won't have to put much else toward it.
Actually, the kids have their own piggy banks that I haven't even counted yet. This was change that has accumulated in our closet for awhile now. I do think I emptied Luke's small piggy bank once in it though, so I may have to put some in the kid's accounts too. :)

I give it to Olivia
I save all my spare change and put it in Olivia's piggie bank and once it is full we take it to the bank. In a little over a year she has over $200. I did have to borrow some money at one point b/c we all were sick and needed medicine. But i repaid her with some interst.
donate
I donate all my spare change I never use "exact" change I always cash a dollar. At the end of every month I roll it my self because coin Star is actually very expensive I think. and I donate it to an orginization. I love to donate to good causes however most the time money is to tight to give what I really want so I use my change to make up for my short comings on my pay check. I put all donations into my daughters name and so she recieves thanks you cards and she gets to learn how it feels to help perfect strangers.
I have always been one to
I have always been one to take it to a bank. Granted I have always worked for a bank too. MutualBank (formerly MFB) has several branches that have coin counters that won't charge a fee like coinstar. As long as you're a customer you can take it to a branch to change it in. They also have kids accounts that are as little as $10 to open and there are no fees until they turn 18. It's a pretty good deal.
