What gifts do you give/receive?
With the holiday season approaching, I'm wondering what types of gifts do you and your family like to give and receive. I am more than happy to both give and receive thrift store items(even though we do get at least one new item for the kids), and homemade gifts, but my extended family would stick their noses up at that idea. They feel that the more you spend on someone the better. I don't even want a lot of money spent on myself or our children, it's wasteful and takes away from the holiday. What do you think, are you a thrift store, homemade, buy new what you can afford, go all out, gift card, or nothing at all gift giver/receiver???

Cutting back this year...
We've decide our kids have too many toys and don't play with half of them, so we are cutting way back this year! We've told our families they don't need anything, but the grandparents love to give toys, so I won't take that joy away from them. Although I did tell people that they have enough toys, so things like books, puzzles, board games, etc would be a great idea! However, my grandparents did say they were just giving us money to put in the kids savings accts. We will buy something small for the kid's grandparents (from the kids), but we aren't doing much there either. For each other, we decided we don't need a bunch of gifts, but we both would love to have a digital photo frame, so IF we find a good deal, we may do that for ourselves (we never seem to get the pics off the camera and into frames, so this seems like a fun idea). Anyway, we do normally buy new gifts, but we cut way back and we are only buying what we can afford to. We do like to give gift cards...easy for us and they get what they want!

It's so hard to buy for kids who already have everything! For my nieces I always try to buy them the basics that they need. All kids can always use socks and underwear. My oldest niece is alot like me and loves that stuff! She took her birthday money a couple of years ago and picked out a new toy. She was happy with it until they got to the sock and underwear section and had to have those instead! She was 7 at the time! With my son, he gets harder and more expensive every year! What do you buy a 13 year old boy? I guess this year it's going to be some new stuff for his computer. He's really wanting a new gun to go hunting next year with his dad. We'll see. I'm not too keen on that, but I have to remember that he is growing up! My husband and I don't give alot to each other anymore. Last year I got him new Harley shirts that he wanted and he got me this great new Harley jacket that I wanted. I was so excited!! It's dressy and I can wear it anywhere that we go.
