I was wondering if anyone bought a Weiss Home. If so, how was the experience?

My friend did and they liked
My friend did and they liked the experience with them. Although I think they over paid for their house. They paid for a lot of extras and their house appraised for less than they paid. Other than that, they really enjoyed it and are happy with their home.

Yes
A girl I worked with did and she like it but now its been 9 years and they arent as happy as they were. My brother just build a home with Schumaker homes and they love it. We are actually looking into building with them as well but we cant find any land. I dont know what promotion they are running but Sept was $30000 off the price of your house. http://www.schumacherhomes.com
Don't Do It
A friend of mine purchased one of their model homes and nothing is to code. Their finished basement has flooded 3 times because the egress windows weren't installed right. Their house is still under warranty and they told them that the house is not their problem anymore. The like the area they're in and they like other things about the house, but Weiss isn't very helpful or considerate about following through on things they're responsible for.
I have a Weiss Home
My husband and I bought a Weiss home about 5 years ago. We had a wonderful experience. We have had no problems. I think that you just have to be careful anytime you buy a home and get inspections. We built our home and were always checking to make sure things were being done properly. I think they did a wonderful job. So trust your instincts because there are always stories about every builder just like childbirth stories.....

Does your house have a cathedral ceiling? I went on line and found tons of articles where some builders dont do them right and you got a mess.
ceilings
My brother has cathedral ceiling in his house and they love them. Go talk to schumacher homes. Believe me my brother wants the best of the best and probably talked to just about every builder around here. He was there every day when they building to make sure they were doing everything right. The only negative thing he said which really wasnt the builders fault was they didnt get to move in when they originally said but they had snow first because they started in Dec then they had flooding because of all the rain. It wouldnt hurt to go talk to them or go online and see their floor plans and they are always runny promotions.
we didn't, but
Our neighborhood used to be a variety of homes by different builders. Weiss bought the field behind us and expanded on our neighborhood. Very few people are happy with their homes, and just watching the building process and everything that went on down the street from us, I would NEVER build with them. Some examples: the first home that went up was build so wrong from the beginning, they had to start over and build them another entirely new house 2 doors down. Then their new house had water problems with the basement and they had to have the basement jackhammered out (while they lived in it) and repoured.....twice! Weiss has had to replace several driveways in the neighborhood because they caved in and cracked. Our neighbors house is only 2 years old and their windows are already molding. We've simply not heard good experiences except for a couple of people. A few on our street alone had lawyers because Weiss was so difficult to work with and unwilling to fix problems in a timely fashion. Someone else mentioned price, and I agree for the quality of their work, they are WAY over priced.

thanks!
I appreciate all the feedback. I looked them up under the Better Business Bureau and there were no complaints but I dont think people utilize the service like they used too.
service
I'm sure there would be a bump or two along the road with any builder. From what we heard from neighbors, those bumps weren't the issue so much as getting Weiss to respond and fix the issues. Watching the neighborhood next to us go up, it seemed like they "ignored" obvious issues until someone actually complained, then went back and tried to patch it up, rather than just doing stuff the right way in the first place. It's hard to say though because each neighborhood could have different project managers, etc, so one Weiss neighborhood may have gotten good service and attention while another was simply poorly managed.

Court
My best friend was having a house built by them and when they were closing, they had made the cost of the house more than what they agreed on. So my friend and her husband said they werent going to by the house then, and Weiss homes refused to give them their $10,000. down payment back! So they got a lawyer to get it back! I personally would never by a house from them because of what I heard. Good luck to you though!
