Volunteer activities in the community that me and my 2 year old can get involved in
I am a working mother usually off by 5 and am looking for volunteer oppurtunities that my daughter and I can both be involved in. It would have to be evenings and weekends. I have always had an interest in helping the community but being a working mother I always feel guilty about leaving my daughter when I am not working unless it is nessecary and think it would be great idea to involve her and start her in aon the experiance at a young age. If you have any suggestions or ideas I would love to hear them!

volunteer ideas
Two that come to my mind right away would be a nursing home, assisted living home, or a no kill animal shelter.
The nursing homes are a good place that need interaction with some of the patients there. The old people always enjoy the company of a little one. The love to tell them stories and listen to them. I am sure that a home could identify a few seniors that would be a good match for you and your daughter. To be able to remember them on special days with a treat or small gift of love would surely be kind, especially when they don't have anyone in thier life.
The no kill animal shelters need help caring and at adoption days. I don't know if you have a love for either of these ideas. Good luck.
Oh, also donating time at the homeless shelters, cooking and serving food. I think they always need help too.
The SB school corporation has a mentor program and a reading program(which may be good with your daughter) you go in and read to a classroom once a week I think. Check to see what Mishawaka has in the schools
Good luck!

Another thought, Also check with your church or if you don't have on check with a local church, they always have things going on that need help, the local church schools too, a womens shelter, the YMCA too, they are always looking for help with kids activities. You will have to go through a background check --I think.
March of Dimes
MichianaMoms.com has their own team for the March of Dimes. The walk is on Saturday, April 26th. It is a 4 mile walk around town, so that might be fun for your daughter to walk (or ride in a stroller or wagon) for a good cause. You could also get her involved in collecting donations or even earning money herself to donate for babies! It may be fun to gather a few other moms with kids your daughters age and make it a team effort for the kids to raise money to reach their goals. :)
More info is coming soon on the home page here, but here is the direct link to our team's page. http://www.marchforbabies.org/s_team_page.asp?seid=505076
I haven't personalized it or anything yet, but you can still donate or join our team.
