My husband's beloved 2001 Dodge Intrepid may have bit the dust tonight.  We bought the car used with high miles and said my husband would drive it till it died.  We have said for a long time that we could never even joke about trading it in or getting him a new car because "she" would get hurt feelings and die.  It has been such a great car, hardly any problems, and best of all, it's been paid off for a long time!  Well tonight my husband pulls in the driveway, hears a loud popping sound, the car starts smoking and something leaked all over the driveway.  We decided to just enjoy our evening and take the kids to the fair as planned, and worry about the car (or lack there-of) later.  So the kids go to bed and we went outside to "patch things up" with the car.  It started perfectly, ran like a charm, hubs even drove it around the block....and it's like nothing even happened!  So maybe not totally bit the dust, but we definitley need to have it looked at.  Zolman's downtown I think is the closest to us and we've always had really good luck with them, so my husband is going to take a chance and drive it tomorrow morning to get it looked at.

With all this, we are trying to prepare a little, just in case it is something major (like engine or transmission) and not worth actually fixing.  So to the purpose of my posting this....has anyone bought a used car lately that you've had good luck with?  We really won't spend alot because other than my husband driving to work, we really never use our 2nd car.  We are really torn on how much we would be ok with putting into the car to fix it, but don't really want to take on a 2nd car payment or spend money at all on a new car.  So what kind of used car would you recommend, or where would you recommend looking at used cars?

Toyota

Awww, I feel bad! I keep saying the same thing about my car, that I'll keep it until it dies on me. I've had AWESOME luck with my car! I've had it since 2002 and I've had NO problems AT all with it. The only money I've had to put into it is regular maintence. Anyhow, it's a 1995 Toyota Corolla, I highly recommend Toyota! I also get awesome gas mileage on it. I drive a lot and a I can go almost a week and half to two weeks on a full tank of gas! Last time I think it was it was about 300 miles :) It may be old but it saves me a lot of money :)
Good Luck!!

update

An update on my husband's car.  He drove it this morning and made it all the way to Zolman's!!!  Come to find out, they can find nothing wrong with the car.  So they said there could be a bad seal on the radiator cap, so they replaced it.  All that, and $44 later, we are good to go :)  I can't believe something that seemed like such a big deal (we really thought it was the end of the car) was so minor!  YAY!
