Long story short, my doctor suggested I have my thyroid levels tested.  I didn't get the feeling she was sure this could be a problem, it seemed like she kind of suggested it to make me feel better about my symptoms....it seemed like an afterthought after we discussed some concerns.

I've done some research online and keep seeing the same basic list of symptoms of thyroid problems.  But I want to hear from others who know firsthand what some of problems you experience as a result of your thyroid levels being off.  Thanks!

mine is low

I was diagnosed with low thyroid, about 8 months after I had my 2nd child. My symptoms were very similar to postpartum depression, so that's what I thought I was going through. #1..I was sooo tired, and had noooo energy! #2...The normal things that happen a few months after you give birth like your menses returning, and your hair falling out, both did not. What made me finally go and talk to my doc, was that #3...I was very, very emotional(which is so very out of context for my personality). Crying at the drop of a hat, screaming and yelling at my hubby, and just basically feeling like I was not myself, or something wasn't right with me. My doc ran some blood work and found that my thyroid level was quite low so he put me on some meds to get my levels back to a normal range. Within 3 months everything returned to almost normal. My menses returned, my hair began to finally fall out, and my sanity greatly improved. I have to take this med for the rest of my life, and have my levels checked every year unless I start feeling "weird" again, which luckily I have not!

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Yes, this definitely helps ALOT!  I suffered from PPD after Shawn was born, he is now 16 months, it doesn't seem to be improving at all.  In fact, it got worse after having Mirena put in a few months ago, and I blamed it on that, but my doctor says side effects from Mirena are very rare, so she doesn't feel that is the issue.  We've doubled the does of my medication and it's like I don't even take anything.  I believe at this point the PPD should have passed.  Maybe I will go have the bloodwork done.  Thank you, this makes me feel much better.

Do you mind me asking how much your thyroid med is each month?  Our insurance is terrible, and I can only imagine what the cost would be for something like this!  Thanks!
