I heard that they had a half day and instead of taking a 2 hour delay they just closed the schools for the day because of the fog.
Now on my way to work I did not think that the fog was that bad that any of the schools in town needed to close. I know some of them have students out in open areas and I am sure that that fog was bad in those areas. Now last night the fog was horrible compared to this morning.
They only had a half day today anyway, so I guess they decided to close rather than fight the fog and be a little late. When I left at 7:40 this morning though, it was just as clear as it has been any other day and that is just 10 minutes after Nathan normally gets on the bus. On top of that when they have to make it up at the end of the year, it will be a full day instead of a half day make up because the same thing happened last year!

Really they couldn't have delay today(its not their policy to do delays anyways-open or closed--hopefully this changes ?) The kids had a half day which is really only like 2.75 hours for the middle schools i think (from 7:55 to 10:45 ?)and a bit longer for primary kids, so to do a two hour delay would be silly. So to get the kids to school and then to turn around and have to ship them home is not worth it let alone having to deal with the primary school schedules. Primary schools go to school a bit later. A delay on a half day is more problems than its worth. I would be interested to know what they would have done today if there was a full day. It would be silly to cancel school if once the fog burned off all other weather was good, although we started to freeze here, icey driveway, and colder temps.

Zero visibility and a half day to begin with. Sereral accidents happened with moterists. It was nasty out with no visibility explains why. I worked last night and drove with my flashers on and didn't go above 15 mph.

I go to college at night until 10. My teacher let us out at 9 because she said she's a chicken! But I think the college should have shut down. I could barely see 10 feet. I missed my exit going home and I know that road by heart but it was the worst fog I've ever seen. I think all schools don't make sense!!

It is ridiculous

Closing
I don't understand they wouldn't close the snow due to the dangerous roads but they will for fog?? South Bend doesn't make sense.
Zero visibility and a half
