South Bend Chocolate Cafe
Hello Everyone! I've been visiting this site and reading many of the entries for a few weeks now and thought it was finally time to get more involved. :) I have a question . . .I was recently at the SB Chocolate Cafe (the one by the Football Hall of Fame) and they have almost completed the new section of the restaurant. It should be done this next week. They said there will be a play area there. Does anyone know the details about this? Is it a large indoor play area (with tubes/slides) or something else? Just curious. I'd love to visit with my three little boys, but before I go I'd like to know what to expect! Thanks for your help!

Welcome!
I'm glad you decided to join instead of lurk :)
Actually, I had forgotten about the new addition to SB Chocolate! I thought it was supposed to be done last summer, I was all excited, and it seemed to just slip my mind when I never heard more about it. I would be interested to see what it's going to be like. Way back when they just announced the addition, I think I remember hearing there would be a play place for kids, but I didn't get the impression it was a huge indoor park. I could be completely wrong though. When they first started remodeling we would try to peek through the paper they had up over the windows, and a big chunk of the building looked to be a kitchen. If they have squeezed a huge, fantastic indoor play area for kids in there, I would be surprised. Hopefully I'm wrong because something like that would be really cool!

Playland
I was just there yesterday - they will have a grand opening on the 12th. I wanted to reserve space to have my son's birthday party - they have a large playroom seperate from everything and then a small play structure near the eating area. Looks like it will be really nice - though to get from the eating area to the play land you need to walk past shelves and shelves of candy:)
playroom . . .
I'm glad to hear there's another larger playroom. All I could see from the window was a small play set shaped like a tree and I was worried that was all they had. That wouldn't keep my 6 year old busy for very long! I can't wait to check it out next week! I"m a coffee and chocolate junkie so that's one of my favorite spots. Now that I can go there with kids, it may be a regular stop for me! Thanks for the info.

Playcafe
There is an article in the South Bend Tribune today (Sunday). In the business section about the Chocolate Cafe and the new addition which is called the Playcafe and they also talk about the rest of the additions that they have made down there. I am very excited and the best part it opens on Wednesday. I am sure that I will be taking my son there soon.

Opens Wednesday
I'm sure it will be SO busy over the next couple of weeks. We may wait a bit to check it out, but if anyone goes tomorrow, let us know what you think! I'd love to hear all about it.
WNDU talked about it tonight on the 6:00 news, and it looks interesting. I wish they would have showed more of the play area, but I suppose they want you to come check it out for yourself!
They also mentioned they are now serving beer and wine. Any thoughts? A little of something for everyone, eh?

I am going tonight
They are hosting a Chamber of Commerce event to members, so I am going to that tonight. Rumor is they had 300 people sign up, so I don't know how long I will stay if it is that crowded! But I will report back anything I see.
I'll let you know . . .
I'm supposed to be meeting a friend there on Thursday so I'll let you all know how it is!

Playcafe
WNDU was on TV this morning showing it off. I can't wait to take Aaron there. I am sure that he is going to love it. I don't know if we are going to be able to get there this week, plus I would like to go when it is not so busy. Everytime something new opens they are busy for weeks. We always wait for about a month before we go to new places.

SB Chocolate preview
Well I went last night, the play area is nice. It has benches to sit on, so you could sit and sip a drink but there aren't tables to eat at in the play area. You have to walk through a candy shop area to get to the play area, the candy isn't SB Chocolate it is lots of kids type candy... Pop rocks, suckers, lots of candy I didn't even know of before. There are 3 video games in the play area too for older kids, and a claw machine (That is my best description of it, the kind where you try to pick up a stuffed animal). The old part of the cafe is still in tact with the same tables, but now you order food in the new part and there are more tables there, they are big round tables that seat more people. They have a popcorn machine that sells popcorn for 50 cents. The food menu is slightly expanded to include hot dogs and cheeseburgers and a couple additional sandwiches. All of the food and drink prices went up. Food went up maybe $1 or a little over I would guess, however drinks seemed to have gone up around 20-30%. It was packed last night and I am sure it will be fairly busy for a while. My 4 year old is going to visit it today with his Uncle, so he is going to test out the play area for himself.
