So last night was yet another night Shawn was up half the night.  Hubs fed him and put him down about 9:15, and by 11:15  (just as I was thinking about going to bed) he was wide awake again.  He wants to be held, but he screams if we sit down.  I nursed my oldest to sleep every night and every day for naps, so I actually don't mind cuddling and rocking Shawn to sleep, but I'm certainly not going to stand up and carry him (he's probaby 19 pounds!) around all night long.  We took turns with him until almost 3 am, when I was finally able to put him back in his crib.  We learned while we were in FL visiting my parents that the noise from the fountain on the pool calmed him enough so we could at least sit down to rock him.  When we got home we realized we don't have fountains in our pool...oh, wait, we don't even have a pool, and even if we did, its too darn cold to be rocking a baby to sleep on the back porch in the middle of the night....so, we had to search for another noise that was calming to Shawn, so we could sit down to rock him.  The vent fan on the stove hood was the winner!  We turn it on and he's almost instantly calm enough so we can sit down with him!

What noises did you baby find calming?  The blow dryer was the soothing sound that always put Luke to sleep...he would fall asleep in his highchair while I blow dryer my hair, so I'd move him outside the bathroom and close the door enough so he could still hear the dryer, but it wasn't blasting in his ear.

Sounds

Well no sounds really I never had to do that. But with my cousin my aunt went through a Dozen vacuum cleaners that was the only thing that calmed her. And a baby swing for my little sister.

Maybe you should get one of those soothing soundmakers

This time of the year those are items that go on clearance after Christmas. I think Kohl's had some, I am going tonight so I will look and see how much they are. But if they are really cheap it could be worth a try, especially if you can move it to different rooms and maybe eventually it will be enough to keep him sleeping in his room. Both my kids listened to music at night, it was supposed to be soothing lullabies but by the time Colin was old enough to get up and change the CD in the middle of the night he did. Sometimes we have to go in and turn the music down because he turns it up after bedtime and it is usually some kind of Disney dance tunes or something that is not going to make him wind down!

Around 30% off

Kohl's had a couple sound makers, and one was a baby version with multiple images to project to the ceiling. We used a Disney projector with both kids and they both liked watching the images go around and it put them right to sleep. There was only 1 of the baby ones, except it was still $30. The regular non-kid version without projected images was $21. It wasn't the best sale on them, and I am surprised they aren't cheaper but if you have a 15% off coupon it will be better too. There was only one of the baby ones that I saw of, and they are all located up front next to the registers in the women's section.

Soothing aquarium

When Bekka was in NICU she had one of the (I believe it was made by Fisher Price)Aquariums that you hang on the side of the crib. It plays a soothing lullaby and it lit up alittle. When she came home I had another one that projected images on the ceiling and played a lullaby. She loved them and so did mommy!!!

Fisher Price Aquarium

My mom actually bought Shawn one of these for Christmas.  It is so cute, the little fish swims, the water bubbles, and it plays cute music.  It also has the projection so it lights up on the ceiling.  I just worry that he will wake up and it will make him want to play, rather than relax and sooth him.  Maybe I will try it at nap time and see what happens.  Thanks!
