Small Smiles
We are looking for a dentist and have heard horror story about Small Smiles. Wanted to see if anyone here has been there and how the visit went for you.
Ex. of some of the things we have heard is that they go under different names everytime they change towns, most the time they get kicked out of places. They are not allowed in several states. The last things I heard is how they strap your child down to the table like a prison would and that is why you are not allowed back there. Guess I really need some more help finding a dentist and one that will take Hoosier Healthwise...Thanks for any input...

Dr. Lovan . ..
I can't speak for small smiles, but we go to Dr. Lovan in South Bend and we love it. All three of my boys have had their first appointments and everyone is very nice. My boys actually LOVE going to the dentist because they know they'll get a prize if they're good and that they get a cool new tooth brush! I don't know if they take Hoosier Healthwise, but I'm pretty sure they are taking new patients. Let me know if you want the phone # or you can look it up in the yellow pages under Dr. Lovan.

Wow, I have not heard that! A friend I used to work with works at the Small Smiles center and she loves it there. I take my boys to Northpoint Pediatric Dentistry to Dr. Fishbaugh. It is located across the street from UP Mall on SR 23. They do take Hoosier Healthwise there. It is a VERY child friendly place- they have tv's books, its brightly colored and the dentist and staff are super friendly! Everything is explained to the child at a level in which they understand. My 6 year old had to get 3 fillings and he didn't even know they had given him a shot to numb him- they used some nose gas and talked him through the steps. He got a little silly from the nose gas but did amazing! If he knew they gave him a shot- he would have went nuts! Give them a call and take a tour!
Best dentist ever!
I take our family to Dr. Klopinstien. He is located on 933 N. by Auten Road in South Bend. My kids love it, and they get to watch TV while he works. Also they let you come back to the room if child wishes you to. I did the first time with both my kids because they were scared of our old dentist. However now even my 3 yr old ( who is very very shy) asks me to stay in the lobby. I really like it there and they work on Saturdays! My kids love the prize box and actually play with the toys from it! Also, the office staff is very helpful and easy to work with! A++++++

Dr. Matt Brennan
Here's my plug for the local guy. We patronize local businesses when ever we can for lots of reasons. Dr. Brennan is a second generation dentist and has lived in Michiana his whole life. Our children love him and the staff. He let my little ones sit on my lap for the exams. My son had some fillings and he didn't feel the shot either. When the local guy does well it keeps the large chain stores from moving into the area like Small Smiles. Your choices make such a huge difference, it's a shame not everyone considers where they shop, play and live.Lynn
Dr Johns
My kids go to Dr Johns Childrens Dentistry on eddy st in South Bend. They love going to the dentist. They get to watch cartoons on the ceiling while they get their teeth cleaned and love the prize box. He has been around forever and from everyone I know has a great reputation! My 2 1/2 year old was so excited that she finally got to go see him a few weeks ago.
We were referred to Dr Johns by our dentist
My dentist chooses not to fill fillings for little kids who might be wiggly, so he referred us to Dr. Johns for my son's first cavity last fall. They took a polaroid picture of him with Dr. John's because it was his first visit and he liked watching the video too. He was done in no time too, I have never had a filling and expected it to take longer but it was only about 15-20 minutes.
I 2nd Dr. Fishbaugh!
Just took my son to see him last week and it went very well! I've also heard good things too about Dr. Johns.

I was wondering about small smiles
Just from reading the advertisement on their sign made me wonder if they were legitimate or not???
Well we have also heard only wonderful things about Dr. Johns, but we see Dr. Cunningham in Mishawaka. He's a family dentist who's been around forever and he and his hygenists are great with the kids! The prize box, choice of free toothbrush and the complimentary "kids size" tube of Crest for Kids definitely take the cake though :)
