Shopping from gift registry
My cousin in getting married in July and I was shopping for a bridal shower gift for her this morning. It made me wonder, how many of you buy straight from the gift registry? Or would you rather give your own gift or gift card/cash?
Personally, I always shop from the gift registry or give a gift card. If they've registered, it must be something they want and think they will use. A gift card isn't all that personal, but it can be used to buy up the rest of the registry items they didn't receive or other things they need.
I usually buy off the registry,but...
I usually buy off the registry, but get a little creative. I like to buy the smaller/less expensive items that may fall into a theme. Like, I may fill a pasta bowl with some kitchen towels, utensils and the fixings to make pasta...Maybe a pizza pan, pot holders, and a pizza cutter with all the fixings to make pizza....Or a set of wine glasses and a couple bottles of our favorite wines.
I know when we got married 11 years ago....it was those kinds of gifts that I remembered the most.

Themed gifts are my favorite to do! It makes it fun to give the gift too:) When my sister-in-law had her bridal shower- I got her the cake pans, cookie sheets and muffin pans she registered for- then threw in cake mix, muffin mis, frosting, cupcake liners, sprinkles and a cookbook. She LOVED it!
We stay with the registry too
We love to bulk the gifts too. When my niece was born I still had the shower registry print out and knew what she had gotten already. When did a little creative buying on the robe to dress up the tub, put in shampoo, lotion and washcloth and towel from the list, bought a tub-time book, bedtime book and filled the rest of the space in the tub with balloons that looked llike bubbles and it sat at the hospital for her birthday gift. I got big brownie pts with my brother for that.
But... one of my favorite gifts after my son was born came from a family very unexpectedly. They brought ME a pair of pj, candle and bubble bath to use when I needed a break. It was so thoughtful I cried on that one. Usually everyone brings gifts for baby only, mommy got one too.
Wedding gifts
I'm all about giving CASH! :) Everyone needs and enjoys cash! :) I can't remember the last time I bought an actual item off the gift registry for a wedding. Now with a BABY shower, that's different. I buy off the registry and/or give diapers, wipes, a cute outfit. I'm a very practical person. :)

I usually buy from the registry, but I try to get something I think the couple will use on a daily basis or at least fairly often. If there is nothing they will use frequently, then most of the time they get cash. For a baby registry though, I try to get something I think the new mom can't live without on a daily basis.
