School Systems?
My oldest daughter will be 3yrs old on March 10th and we have outgrown our home. So we are looking into school systems since they will be in school shortly after moving. My husband and I are not fans of large school systems (Penn) and we do currentely live in Mishawaka. My husband has found several good points leading to Bremen and I have talked to students, teachers, and parents all in the Bremen schools and I have heard nothing but good from everyone.
Does anyone have anything to add to that?
Thanks Teresa

schools
I grew up in Lakeville/Lapaz and I went to LaVille. We had 69 people in my graduating class (1999), so it's definitley a smaller school. I loved it! Based on my experience there, I would send my kids there in a heartbeat. It's been a few years since I graduated, so I'd have to do a bit more research on the school today before I would move my family into the school district.
We do have a mom here on this board that lives in Bremen schools, and she's said good about the school too. I don't think her son is quite school age yet, but she mentioned they would be sending him to Bremen school.

Several moms had other online resources comparing schools too.
Good luck with your decision, it's a tough choice. We live in Penn schools, and are struggling with the decision to go public, send the boys to private, or move into a smaller public school district. My oldest will be 4 this summer, so we still have a little time to decide yet.

bremen
I have a 4 year old and I moved to Bremen from South bend over 2 years ago because I wanted my son to go to a better school. He is currently in preschool at St. Pauls in Bremen and will be attending second year preschool in fall there and then he will go to the Bremen Public School. I am very happy with the community and preschool so far. He did play school last fall and I just signed him up in T-ball. I have gotten close with my neighbor with two boys so I have been to some events at the school and fundraiser and I am very happy we moved to that community. It is a very close community and everyone knows everyone and is willing to help each other.
There she is!
Are you back to work yet? :)

MY MOM IS TRYING TO START A CLEANING BUSY TOO THAT SHE WILL NEED HELP WITH. I AM NOT SURE WHAT I AM GOING TO DO.

Sorry Teresa, I didn't mean to hi-jack your thread :)
Will you get free or discounted childcare, since you would be an employee? Factor that into the pay cut! Does your husband have a job that could provide insurance? That would be nice to be close to your kids too!

Thanks for the info. that is exactly what I"ve been hearing I work with a girl that moved there years ago and her boys graduated from Bremen and loved it.
School System
My husband and I moved our family from the South Bend school system to New Prarie (New Carlisle). BOth of our sons are dyslexic and were not getting the help they deserved. Not to mention our oldest would of had to go to Navarre Intermediate in the 5th grade. I love this town and school system. Both boys have gotten honor roll the last year and this school year. They are getting the help they deserve and the teachers are in constant contact with us on their extra help. We all sat down at the beginnig of the school year to set a plan and met again just the other week to go over the benchmarks we made and if they were met we also established a plan for next year. It was worth the move my husband works in Mishawaka (about a 30 min. drive) and I work at Memorial Hospital (about a 20 min. drive. Even with the gas prices going skyrocket I still felt this was a smart move because the boys are succeeding and it shows. They are in regular classes and studying things that were considered High Academic for South Bend. We don't woryy about gangs or guns and they have found great friends here. It is a smaller community.

Being a teacher this conversation comes up a lot for me. Small schools are comforting and hold that majestic appeal but they lack widespread opportunity and sometimes experience. Consider as many aspects as possible: location, family support, academics, safety ratings and emergency plans, special needs, teacher certifications and even test scores. Most benefical is word of mouth from family and very close friends with children. Ask those that have similar lifestyles, religious beliefs, socio-economic standing and successes of their own children. You must chose what works for your child not what society dictates. Lynn
