I have just the thing for diaper rash. It is called bag balm and a 10oz can at Walgreens is $7.49. You can see a picture of it
http://www.walgreens.com/search/search_results.jsp?term=bag+balm&x=15&y=...
I used this when my kids had diaper rash. It is really thick like vaseline but it works better. There is a picture of a cow on the can and it was orignally used to treat cow's udders.
Slather on the bag balm. This will take care of it in a few days.
A & D Ointment
I'd put a pretty thick layer of A & D Ointment all over his tushy before bed and then repeat with every diaper change thereafter. I'm sure things will improve in a few days and when he is finally done with the loose BM's..hang in there.
A&D
We've also had great luck with A&D Ointment. When the diaper rash is really bad, we put a layer of Desitin over it at bedtime. Also try sensitive, or at least unscented, wipes for the time being.

Corn starch
My mother in-law always said to use pure cornstarch and I do and it works better then anything I have ever used plus I always have some in my house so it's cheap
we've had so much
My kids suffered terribly with this and runny butt. we gave them a little bit of plain yogurt-no matter the age. that stopped the hiney and then we caked on vaseline. We had lots of raw cheeks and the ointments seemed to burn. the vaseline keep the raw spots sealed until the other area stopped. Good luck, it's awful.Lynn
Original Desitin
It's been a little while since I've had a diaper rash problem. But I think original Desitin is the best. It always worked for me. The other advice I got from a nurse was to let him go without a diaper to get some air. It does help, if thats possible, ie. playing on a blanket. I feel for you. Good luck.

No corn starch!
My Dr. said never put corn starch on a rash, because if it happens to be a yeast related infection (rash), it will make it 1000 times worse. This happened with my first child, I was told to put corn starch on and it got so bad. Thats when my Dr. told me not to use it.The best I have found is A&D.

Aquaphor
The flu went through my house a couple weeks ago and my 9 month old got horrible diaper rash and Destin was just working. I sent my hubby to CVS to get A&D and somewhere between our house and CVS he forgot what he was suppose to get. He came home with Aquaphor, it reminds me of vasiline. My daughter would cry when I put destin on her probably because it burned but she never cried at all with this stuff. Even after one use I saw a big difference it was $7.99 at CVS but I just bought some more at walmart and it was $5.60 (I believe).
Dr. Sirlin's
This worked great for the worst rashes that my kids had. It used to be at Osco (but they are not around). I do know that you can also find it at Merrill's Pharmacy.

Diaper Rash
I have the best treatment for diaper rash! My doctor told me to combine 1 part each of desitin, lotramin, and plain liquid maylox together. It clears up rashes is a day! The lotramin is a foot cream I believe you find it near the pharmacy! If you cant find it ask the phamacist. I know it sounds weird but trust me it will save your life...and your babies tush!
