Baby/toddler questions
Submitted by jessica on May 23, 2008 - 11:44pm.I feel like I've never done this before, but I am having a hard time remembering the transitions we made around the 1 year mark with Luke. Shawn will be 1 next week, and I have a few questions.
1. Is the boxed Gerber Oatmeal cereal the same thing as regular oatmeal, just more ground up? We only used rice cereal for Luke, but I bought oatmeal today for Shawn, and I am now remembering how pricey baby cereal is! Just wondering if running regular oatmeal through the blender would be the same as Gerber oatmeal in the box?
2. How old were your kids when you switched from formula/breastmilk to whole milk? I asked our dr. about switching him a week early, and I got the "if you have to, but we prefer to wait until after their 1st birthday." I stocked up on formula couple of months ago, and I'm on my last can, and I'd hate to go buy another week's worth because we are so close to his birthday.
3. Has anyone ever had issues with your babies suddenly refusing formula? Another reason I want to start switching him to whole milk....it's really becoming difficult to get 32 oz. of formula down him every day! I've tried bigger nipples on the bottles, new sippy cups, different temps of milk....nothing seems to work. After only an oz or two, he tosses the bottle on the floor and gets very angry when we offer it back to him. For awhile, we have managed to get his formula in him by turning on Baby Einstein, but that's not working anymore. He doesn't want to sit in his high chair and he doesn't want to be held. He just plain doesn't want to eat!
Med Point Express
Submitted by bbob07 on May 13, 2008 - 8:39pm.So on Sunday night I checked Olivia temp and it was a 103.1 I was starting to freak out. My mom suggested going to med point express (jessica also did last week when olivia had pink eye but i didn't go my doctor called in a script for her). So i pack up Olivia and we go. But they don't see babies under 2 years old. We haven't slept much in the last three nights. But tonight is the best she has felt in three days. So hopefully we will get to sleep tonight.
The Doctor Says
Submitted by Mommy Of 2 on March 26, 2008 - 11:31am.My Daughters Doctor told me at her 4 month visit she can now have rice cereal. I actually thought it was six months I cannot remember from my other daughter when she started. Do you think 4 months is to early should I wait? This question is weighing me down.
The best training sippy cup?
Submitted by jessica on March 7, 2008 - 11:09am.Shawn is over 9 months old, and they only interest he takes in a sippy cup is if he finds Luke's laying around somewhere. I've tried a few different ones, and he's just not catching on. Anyone have a suggestion on what kind of sippy cup is good for a beginner?
changing babies sleeping schedule
Submitted by kac072604 on February 17, 2008 - 10:06am.Bailey is now 7 weeks old and I have to go back to work in two weeks. Her sleeping schedule is from about 11 at night she finally falls asleep (she is normally awake from 5 or 6 until then) and she gets up about every 3-5 hours to eat but she only eats 1-2 oz just enough to put something in her stomach then she is back to sleep until about 10-11 then she gets up and eats like normal and stays awake. In two weeks I am going to have to start getting up at 530 to get ready for work. I was hoping to get her to start going to bed around 830-9 but I cant seem to get her to go to bed any earlier then 11. Anyone have any ideas?
Teaching a baby "no"
Submitted by jessica on February 15, 2008 - 4:39pm.Well, Shawn is crawling (he's 8 months), and he is so fast and he's into everything! I remember Luke starting to crawl, and we could put a toy in front of him and he would sit and play with it. If we told him no-no, he seemed to understand and learn quickly. He really never got into things around the house, and we could easily distract him. He wasn't one to try to venture off and "explore." I know, I know, he wasn't a normal baby! Shawn I'm sure is like most babies....everything around them is new and exciting, and he would love to get his hands on anything and everything! I swear, I turn around and take 5 steps and he's already headed for trouble. This is funny...last week I put him in the middle of the living room, put a few toys in front of him, and I went to the kitchen to get his bottle ready (I can see the entire living room from anywhere in the kitchen). I turned around, and he was already GONE. I ran across the room and found him headed around the side of the couch. In a matter of 15 seconds, he had pulled about 10 kleenexes out of a tissue box he found on the floor, he dumped an whole glass of water than my husband left next to the couch the night before, and he was on his way to over to a laptop that was sitting on the floor. 15 seconds! Needless to say, this is the norm, and we are quickly realizing how easy we had it with Luke. We have started to introduce NO-NO to him, but it usually makes him laugh, and he goes faster for the trouble he is headed to.
My question - how old were your babies when you had to introduce "no." And how long did it take for them to learn what no means? Do you think the best thing is just to repeat no-no, and he will eventually learn?
Saying mama or dada
Submitted by jessica on February 6, 2008 - 10:11pm.I was looking at the results of this week's poll on the homepage. I noticed some votes saying your babies learned to say mama or dada before 9 months! Wow! My little guy is 8 months, and he squeels and babbles alot, but I don't think he's even close to saying mama or dada yet (at least not because he meant to or knows what he is saying). I'm sure Luke didn't this early either. But I do remember working on getting him to say mama, and he said dada first.
So, when did your little ones first say it? Was it mama or dada?
