Does anyone live in Jimtown school district? I was wondering if they offer full-day kindergarten or not. Thanks!

Didn't the governer make it maditory to have all day Kindergarten by 2009? So I would have to say that the answer to your question would be yes. But I am not sure about that. I just know that my son who is 4, who is in Pre-K will be in all day Kindergarten in the school year 2009 - 2010. Hope this helps.

My understanding from some recent SB Schools planning meetings were that full day Kindergarten would be available, but depending on demand that they will have half day as well. This is because there are parents who still only want half day because their child has not been in preschool or daycare ever. The other advantage for the school system is that if they have enough who do want half day, it will cut salary expenses.

So my assumption after those meetings was that schools must offer full day, but they can offer half day in addition if necessary.

I don't know for sure, but I did see on one of the schools websites, and they gave the times for both morning and afternoon classes, it didn't mention full-day kindergarten.

Ok, so I might be wrong. I thought that the governer had already passed the bill that would make Kindergarten all day for all schools and they would not have a choice of half or all day.

I thought the bill passed too, but I guess it doesn't start for another year atleast. I know that some Mishawaka schools are having the choice of full or half day again for next school year. I think a lot of schools in South Bend still offer half day if they are not title one funded. All title one schools have full day b/c they get money to fund the program.

Okay, so I talked with a teacher at Jimtown and currently they have only 1/2 day but they put in their application for full day for next year. At this time there is no word on whether it was approved or not. Hopefully by kindergarten round up I will know more!
