Influenza
This year influenza has taken it's toll on so many and now it's hit close to my heart. I got a call from my Aunt from Chicago to check on my grandparents because they had been ill (I have been out of town and just got home ) so I went to check on them and found them extremely ill. I took both to ER. My grandpa was dehydrated and got IV fluids. My grandma was so dehydrated that her kidneys shut down. She passed away tonight. There was nothing they could do. She was too weak to fight. It happened sooo fast! The Infectious Disease Dr that I spoke with said that the Flu Vaccines we go this year are only about 40% effective. Everyone is getting a different strain that they didn't plan on. I'm still in shock! I'm going through the guilt phase. There is so much I wish I could've done different but deep down I know God needed her now for something better. My grandparents were married for almost 65 years. I don't think my grandpa is gonna make it without her. They had a caregiver come in everyday for 2 hours to help with household chores. cooking and giving my grandma a bath and she never called anyone during this time. I called her company to ask why she didn't contact any family to tell us they were sick and I was told that they're not medically trained. Ok, If you saw a 98lb old lady on oxygen getting sick for three days and hardly drinking anything wouldn't you have the common sense to think to call someone?? Ugh, I'm sorry I just need to vent!!

Oh no
I'm so sorry for your loss :( How terrible someone was around them for 2 hours every day and didn't notice them being sick! Especially if the caregiver's job was to give grandma a bath, you would think she worked closely enough with her to notice failing health. I did hear last week that the flu shots weren't very helpful this year.
I'm sure guilt is part of the grieving process, but don't be hard on yourself. I hope your grandpa can find the strength to pull though and get well. Again, sorry for your loss :(
