My daughter has a reaction to augmentin the dr gave her to clear up a nasty ingrown toe nail. The nurse said to give her the correct dosage of benedryl for her weight. Did you know the dosage on the bottle isn't the only way to administer drugs? The hospital nurses usually go by weight. Her dosage was increased by half. She is of course asleep which has stopped the itching and crying. And one other bit of info, an intern told us to give our flu sickies plain yogurt. The enyzymes (sp) change the bacteria ratio in the stomache and intestine. They recover faster. We didn't try it the first 24 hrs though. I didn't want the stomache cramps to get ugly.
And one more bit for the vomiting. The drugstore carries phenegran suppositories. That saved me during the flu when I was pregnant. These are things I wish I would have known earlier to save some of the discomfort.

medicine doses

I have found with a 2 year old and all the recalls on toddler medicine that dosage can be very tricky if using what's labeld as childrens medicine. What always works for me is just asking the pharmacist, I believe they too go by weight and that def. puts me at ease not worrying if I am giving too much or too little. They are also very helpful in suggesting certain medicines for common illnesses. One time I called the doctors office to ask them what to give my daughter who was having cold like symtoms (there is just so much to choose from I find it very overwhelming) and they even told me to call a pharmasist. And another time I went to the pharmacy and told them my daughters symtoms and they suggested I take her to see a doctor, I just find it very helpful and money saving. Can't tell you how many times I have wasted money and time taking her to the dr for them to tell me just to ride it out, or even worse she's fine :)

dosage

According to our dr., the dosages given on the back of children's meds is barely enough for it to even work!  At Shawn's 9 month appt, we were discussing the fevers that keep coming up for an unknown reason (probably teething), and our dr. said to stop wasting money on infants motrin, give him children's motrin, AND give him 1 whole teaspon for a fever!  He also was going by his weight, so in reality, we can give him WAY more than the bottle recommended!  Interesting enough, we followed what our dr. said, and hey, it actually brings the fever down now! :)

Lynn, hope your daughter is feeling better!  It's so hard when the little ones are sick :(

Thanks

Thank you she seems better. After her coma-like sleep she seems to be feeling better but her whole body looks swollen. That weirded me out so I asked the nurse. she said just make sure she doesn't drool or won't seem to swallow well. one more super day of cooties, hooray!
