Help I need advice I am a sahm of two kids my husband is a truck driver and we are not seeing eye to eye on things right now. For the past few weeks I have been trying to get things organized to have a garage sale on June 7th and 8th. We have so many things that we no longer need and use so I figure that instead of taking up space in our garageand moving them from place to place that I would have a yard sale, but for some reason unbetold to me he seems to think that it is a big waste of time, and that I am doing all this work to not even sell anything and not even make any money. It's driving me crazy I have no idea why he is acting this way about a yard sale. I have tried explaining it to him that it is not a big deal and all our items are in brand new condition almost seeing as how I am a clean freak and very picky about keeping things looking new so why wouldn't people want to buy anything? He just seems to think that I am going to do all this work and no one is going to come. We argued about this all night with him leaving it at we will just see who's right come yard sale time. Someone please help me figure this out I really just want to prove him wrong and make him eat his words I know that must sound mean but I just want to be right about this. I need to find a way to make him relax about my upcoming yard sale. Plus I could use any tips on yard sale success.

Thanks for reading.

yard sale

Is your husband totally against all garage sales, or just yours??  I'm not a garage-saler, and honestly, I can't understand why people buy the things they do, but the fact is, lots of people do garage sale shop!  Do you live in a high traffic area?

As for tips on a successful sale, we just had a GREAT garage sale...made almost $500, and I still have a lot of stuff to go through for another sale June 13 & 14.  My neighbor and I had sales the same day and advertised it as multifamily sales.  We missed deadline for the paper classifieds, so we posted the sales on wndu.com, here on MichianaMoms.com classifieds, Craigslist, and I think Mygranger.  My neighbor also did a really great job of posting alot of signs around!!  My other suggestion is to price stuff to sell!  I was happy just to sell my stuff and get some $ for it, rather than price it for what I wanted out of things.  I figured put low prices on, and people would buy more.  It was all going to Goodwill at the end of the sale, so a little was better than having to haul it to Goodwill and getting nothing!

husbands...

My Dad is the same way,... doesnt see the point of them. My mom has a MILLION things that she needs to get rid of and I tell them all the time to have one. He doenst want to. My point to him, is well, then tell me, how can you make money on things that you no longer need other than a tax credit in February. My mom and Dad need a new bay window and I have convinced my dad to let us have a garage sale for one day, and get eveything out there and see what happens. If it is flop, we will never have one again.. however, it is good, well, then we know what we can do to make some extra money, which everyone needs right now:) THis is agreat way to clean out space and make some money at the same time. I bet when you tell him how much you made, he may have a different view on Garage Sales :)

good sales

We have had several good sales growing up. Post the signs, list the sales in the papers, price items to sell and don't hold on to stuff to get the best dollar --meaning accept an offer if you want to move it. Is an extra dollar really worth it if it ends up going to goodwill anyways? People are shopping for deals and bargins.

AS far as your hubby is concerned is it a matter that he isn't ready to sell some of the stuff that you think should go ? I know I held onto many baby items because I just wasn't ready to get rid of it even though I knew we were done having children. Sometimes the timing has to be right.

Have fun with it too. If the kids are old enough let them sell lemoade and juice or pop. If its a hot day that is a great way for them to get involved. We made alot of money on the drinks one year because it was a hot hot day.
