How to explain it to children
My son is 4, and all news coverage this morning is remembering 9/11. He's still at a tender age and obviously wouldn't completely understand, but how do you explain what happened to a young child? For those of you whose kids were young in 2001, what did you say to them?

Mean people do mean things.
Limit what you have to say to them. The doctor always says to give a child only what they need to hear. They will not understand the whole story of 9-11 at the age of 4. I found ourselves shutting off the tv when 9-11 happened to prevent the kids from seeing such misfortune and not being able to comprehend that they were safe(as we all prayed that we were). They don't know how far away that was from us, so they didn't understand that it wasn't just down the street. Put kids shows on and limit their viewing of the news stations. Some of it was so over and over that they kids even noticed it was repeated video clips, wondering if it happened to another building.
