My son is almost two and after reading some of the posts about waiting lists, etc. I feel like I need to get on the ball about finding a preschool. He's currently at the East Bank Day Care which has NAEYC accredation. I'm trying to decide if I should have him stay there until kindergarten and even if I do that, how do I go about finding information comparing the test scores among the schools? Thanks in advance for your input and help!!

Hi. One website to try is PSK12.com. Click on Indiana. Hope this helps. You can also try gooling each school corp. to see if they are listed on the schools' websites. Hope this helps.

word of mouth

I would start by talking to friends and family that have kids in school. Test scores are such a small piece of what a school has to offer. I think the teachers and programs offered in the schools are so much more important. And teachers and parents involved in the schools are your best resource for first hand information. You have a lot of time before you need to worry about elementary school..enjoy him while he's little.

could try ...

the website already listed is a great source. Also apps are due by april 2nd, but the marquette school in aug will be ages 3 (by aug 1st) thru K. You can send the app online from a website. I just searched the south bend community site for the new fine arts manget schools. I sent my daughters app there to see if she'd can get in. She is also enrolled at West side to keep her spot. I am unsure where she will be going. This choice will be solely hers.

You can go to the Indiana

You can go to the Indiana department of education website. www.idoe.gov I believe. If not just type in Indiana department of education and you will get there. You can get to all information regarding all Indiana licensed schools. As well as alot of good information from the state.

I agree that you need to consider all info on the school, not just testing scores, that is just a small basis. If parents are not making a effort at home then testing will be low.

I have to disagree with letting a 3 year old make the decision as to where she will be going to preschool.

Website

IndyStar has a good comparison of Indiana schools on their website.  Here's the site: http://www.indystar.com/data/education/school_search.shtml

Mothers and More

Mothers and More is a moms group in the St. Joe County area. They put a book together of preschools in the surrounding area. They were selling them at exploration toys in Granger. If they don't have any more I am sure I can get my hands on one for you.
