Hand-me-down shoes
I've always heard how important it was to put a good pair of shoes on a baby who is learning to walk. I've also heard that it's not good to use shoes for more than 1 child. I know I have a few pairs of nice shoes that Luke had when he was first learning to walk. They are in great condition, and I'd like to get a bit more use out of them. I was thinking about pulling them out for him, but feel like I should buy him his own. Now, I'm just talking about Luke's first 2 or 3 pair of shoes. I wouldn't think of saving Luke's shoes now after he grows out of them and making Shawn wear them in 3 years!
Any thoughts on hand-me-down shoes for babies?

I do both
I have heard the same thing, however I think it depends on the shoes too. Like you said the shoes that are in great condition and hardly look worn can't be broken in that much. Because even though my older son wore them and walked, we carried him so much of the time in and out of stores or riding in carts etc. that I would think they wouldn't be quite "molded" to his foot positions. He also always had several pairs of shoes when he was little so he couldn't even focus on breaking in one pair! So it depended on the shoes, but if they were in good shape I re-used them and by the time he reached 3 he was definitely starting to wear through them so I either throw them out or use them for "garden" shoes.
Shoes
I don't think its bad if they haven't been worn in or out. I say go for it I would hand my daughters shoes down to the new baby but I got ride of them didn't think I was going to have a second child how silly of me lol. No more babies for me I am done permanently.
shoes
This is what our peditrician told us. And naturally having three kids I need to watch our budget.
The kids first pair of shoes they learn to walk in should be their own. These are ones that they are learning to walk with, a good fitting with a flexible yet firm sole. After that a hand me down pair is ok as long as it show NO wear whatsoever. Any slight bit of wear indicates that the shoe has broken down to that persons foot and you don't want to force that on any other childs developing foot.
We pass down things like dress shoes that were bought for a special dress or outfit that may have only been worn 3-4 times
Feet are very important(coming from someone that has issues with my own feet) you want to make sure that you take care of them from the beginning--its the only set you have for life and they can effect the way you stand, walk, back trouble, and so forth. They can be a large issue for alot of other pain later on.
Soft-Soled Leather Shoes
Our peditrician told us diferent... to not put shoes on kids unless they go outside when cold or rain and if so to have a shoe that is really soft. When the kid is walking very well then have a good shoe but around 4-5 year old. She recommend the Soft-Soled Leather Shoes like Robeez's. My son is always barefoot in the house and outside in the summer; of course right now it's another story and I have good shoes for him!
FIRM YET SOFT/FLEXIBLE SOLE
When you are talking about what age to where shoes, I have to agree that barefoot while learning is the best , that wasn't the discussion though. When you must put shoes on for saftey and going out of the house I still stand by my original post. Firm/flexible/soft sole for learning.
