Anyone take your child(ren) at one of these places? If so, what are your thoughts? We live in S. Bend, very north (state line) and little west. We are needing to look at other daycare options (part-time, 2 days/wk). I'm planning on calling these places on Monday to find out prices. A friend of mine just started taking her 3 month old to one the centers, this week.. she has to pay FULL-TIME rate even if she takes her baby 2 days per week. Wow, lots of $$$
Thanks for any input

I know growing kids has a 3 day price. I can't remember what it is. I can ask a lady at church she is works for them as a morning supervisor at the growing kids on Rosetta off of Bendix.
I think your friend is getting ripped off BADLY.

I used Growing Kids on Ireland Rd. I paid nearly $100 for each kid for part time rate (3 days or less). A lot more than I had to pay previously in a smaller town! They do have the perk of having evening shift care which was a priority for me at the time. It was a nice facility and I was pleased with the care. You can sometimes find a coupon for the registration fee in that Michiana Family magazine at CVS and Martin's. Good Luck with your decision.

Thank you both for responding to my post. Well, we've decided to try a childcare place that is in a church very close to our home. I'm sad about the change but our other person (who did childcare in her home) was taking so many kids so she's decided to discontinue caring for children on a part-time basis.. only taking her full-time kids. However, she did say to me yesterday that if it didn't work at the other place that we could bring the kids back.. our kids have been with her since they were 3-5 months old. Thanks again for the input ladies.

Daycare Beware

Hi girls. While you are speaking of daycare centers on the North side of South Bend beware of Old School Daycare located at the corner of Clevland and Ironwood. She lost her in home license back in the spring of 2008 but has a new sign in her yard advertising licensed daycare at low low prices. She is facing criminal felony charges as we speak for battery to a child. I know because it was my 6 month old baby. It's an extremely long and agonizing story, one I'll leave for a judge or jury but in the mean time please get the word out to avoid this place at all costs.

Thank you for your thoughts. I will keep you posted about the progress of the case. At one point Erin Logan from channel 16 wanted to run our story but we politely declined at that point to make sure it wouldn't jeopordize the case should it be taken to a jury. We'll know October 8th if the daycare will plea bargain or choose a trial. I'm looking into our Indiana laws because even if this lady is charged with criminal charges she is still by law able to watch 5 unrelated children without a license. We are so blessed to have finally found a wonderful gal to watch our daughter. My heart goes out to all the moms who have to make that daycare choice. It certainly is painful to leave our little ones.
so close.

My husband and I visited the same place back in October. We didn't choose them because my husband said he had "a feeling" about them. I guess we should listen to our "feelings" more often. I wish you only the best.
May I ask how old is your daughter and who watches her? I am looking for someone and I am having trouble finding someone. I think I am tooooo picky. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can be tooo picky when it comes to leaving your child in someone else's care. We have decided to switch to a new daycare ourselves and am bracing for the transition, which starts next week. Thanks for the warning!!

You have no idea how emotional I was as I read your reply. I sobbed. I'm so glad your child is safe. I've never had to take our children to daycare and was very naive through the entire process thinking that because the owner of the daycares husband is a pastor and they were very involved in the church they were good people. I had a feeling this wasn't the place for our daughter but thought like most moms I was being to picky and lets give it a try. I agree after this experience you can NEVER be to picky and needless to say I will NEVER go against my instincts again. All of our friends have older children and don't use daycare so it was very hard to get a referral. This site is a wonderful tool for referrals and all the moms on here should be proud knowing they are helping each other. My husband and I are guilt ridden. We thought we did all the right things while looking into daycare. We made sure everything was legit with the licensing as well as interviewed them. We celebrated my daughter's first birthday yesterday. I'm only hoping she will never remember the day when she came home with her entire butt black and blue. I beleive this happened to our family so we can make a difference and I intend to do just that! We have found a gal that watches my daughter in her home and she isn't licensed. Unfortunately I don't think she's taking any other children because she has a small child of her own. I wish I could be more helpful to make your transition easier. Good luck and I will keep my eyes and ears open for you.
