I'm thinking of joining Fitness USA, I got a postcard in the mail saying there are no contracts and its only $19.99 a month and you pay as you go...Does anyone belong there or have you used their facilities before? What did you think??

yep I do

My husband and I both have a membership but neither one of us have been there for years. We live in Bremen so its a 20 minute drive and with two kids we just cant find the time. THe only thing I didnt like was that they had girl days and boy days so my husband and I couldnt go and work out together. They do have a nice facility and the equipment is good. They have trainers there that would help you get on a good plan of machines (it was no cost for the trainers when I went not sure about now). THey have a nice pool area and different classes you could attend. My son is 5 and i have been there since before I was pregnant so it was a nice place back there. BEfore they would let you try it one time for free to see if you like it. I did hear they have tanning beds now if you go tanning.

I'd really like to try it

I'd really like to try it out too!! hmmm... I have 4 kids at home while my fiance works weekdays 7am-7pm his hours have been varying lately and hes been coming home after 8pm so I would like to go workout when he gets home with the kids for my release! I like the pay as you go! Im going to try it out Sunday!! I just signed up for a free trial, I like that they have lady days only :) I went out walking last weekend and added a little jogging it felt great!! But I live between Bendix & Olive St off Lincolnway Im 1 block from Kennedy and after all these shootings I will not be taking anymore walks :(

Its Okay

I actually did go and sign up. I went in for my first night of the free trial and they were EXTREMELY pushy. I ended up signing up because my two friends I was with had signed up so I figured why not...I have to admit the ladies there annoyed me big time!! I didnt bring my credit card or anything with me and they said they could follow me home to copy my card!!! I told them I couldnt pay until Friday when I get paid, they said they could take my check and hold it for and I told them I wasnt sure yet how I was going to want to pay, they just kept pushing and pushing and pushing! Finally my friend just put it on her credit card...Well anyways, when I went back for my first work-out day they had asked me to bring my credit card that I wanted the monthly 19.99 deducted on. Well I was on the machine in the middle of walking and the lady came over and asked me to give her my credit card, I'm like helllloooo cant you see I'm in the middle of walking, cant you just wait a few minutes ?? It kind of turned me off on the place. But I figured I'd give it a few months since I had to pay 50 bucks for the initiation fee. The facility does have a lot to offer for the price. They have lots of classes that are included in the monthly fee, they have a sauna, hot tub, swimming pool so it is a nice place, I just wish they werent so pushy! :)

This was the one in SB, but

This was the one in SB, but I know the Mishawaka location is the same exact. They kind of trick you because you have to pay the initation fee, there are 3 different fees/levels. The cheapest is 50, then 100, then 150...They say each level has different things that your membership will entail and they try their hardest to talk you into the highest level and the only different thing with that membership is you can use the front room on any day regardless if its a female or male day and they say you get special membership things like diet stuff, etc. They said its not hard to cancel, you just have to give a 30 day notice. But I guarantee when you cancel they'll try to talk you into it, so you just gotta be strong :-) I've heard horrible things about them from the past about their contracts and stuff so I'm sure that is why they dont do the contract thing now. Aside from the pushy girls, its not that bad. I like it because I dont feel uncomfortable there...I've been to some gyms before where I just feel like I dont belong.

I use to go all the time.

I use to go all the time. Back then there was a contract. I think that they found out the contract was a bad thing and made people not sign up. I enjoyed all the equiptment, whirlpool, pool, steam room was really nice to sit in, sauna and classes too. I know they have done some changing around since I was last there. If you have the time and can go then its a nice place to be.

I am currently a member there under contract....

If you are going to go with Fitness USA I would definately go with the $19.99 a month without a contract. I signed a two year contract last September, and unfortunately I must not have read all the fine print bc it wasn't just a regular membership, it ended up being a loan that I'm paying on every month and shows up on our credit reports. My husband was not thrilled. :/ But other than that I would definately reccomend the facility. It's very nice and clean and they have personal trainers to help you when you first get started if you want. I like that the mens and womens days are seperate, but I guess if my husband and I both had memberships it would be nice to go together. The only bad thing is they don't offer child care like some other gyms.

Cardinal Fitness

We got screwed by them about 10 years ago with the whole contract membership thing too, when we were young and naive...

My hubby has been going to Cardinal Fitness religiously for 2 years now, and is 40 lbs lighter and stronger. If you're looking for a pool and spa, then it's not for you. It offers free weights, weight machines, bikes, elipticals, and treadmills. I believe you pay monthly (19.99), but can withdraw at any time, if it doesn't work out...no contracts. They do offer childcare, but I'm not sure what the rate is...he goes at 5am before any of us are even up.

Me Too!

I got screwed with the contract about 7 years ago too. I had signed up and went for about a year, then got pregnant and didn't go for over a year. I didn't pay my yearly due that year and when I tried to go back they said I had to sign the contract and start all over. I had paid them over $1,000 for a lifetime membership that turned out wasn't lifetime unless you paid the $20 every year.

I went to World Gym for a few years and they do have free childcare which was great. I am not sure what they charge now. We just workout at home or run when we find time now.

I used to work there!

I worked at FItness USA when I was teen. I lived in Detroit back then and let me tell ya, its all about being pushy. I didnt make it cuss it was strict commission back then. I worked at the juice bar after that. I bought a membership eons ago. I lost my card and asked for a new one. They charged me 50 bucks. I have one of those so called lifetime memberships. Since I moved here I saw the one on grape, I have again lost my card since its been yrs since Ive been. I wonder if I could get another. The equipment is ok but they bug the crap out of ya. Got a friend who can join? Nope. How about family? Nope. They are a trip.
