finger sucking

OK I am at a my wits end. How can I get my 2 year old to stop sucking her fingers? She has sucked her finger since she was 2 weeks old and I don't know how to get her to stop. She rejected the pacifier and now I am worried she is going to hurt her teeth. We have tried all sorts of things even special nail polish but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Stop trying
My 16 year old son has been sucking his thomb since he was born and the doctor always said that he would grow out of it. Well, he is 16 and still sucking his thomb so I don't think they grow out of it. He usually does it when he is really concentrating on something or watching T.V.
well ....
well my son who just turned 2 on Friday has sucked his thumb since he was born..it has not been sooo much since...but he does do it before bed, when he is bored, upset or concentrating...but my pediatrician said she sucked her thumb as well and its a myth about teeth being messed up from it but I find it hard to believe...both of my boys never wanted anything to do with a pacifier but my sister or myself never did as well...I do need to try the nasty nail polish...but unsure if anything will work ....any advice...

my son sucks his fingers
He is 3 yrs old and we just took him to his first Dental appt to Dr. Fishbaugh (pediatric Dentist across from University Park Mall) last Wednesday. Michael has sucked his fingers since he was 7 months old and his middle finger is actually getting mishaped including the nail. At 2 yrs old it's almost impossible to reason with a child about not sucking a finger/thumb (in my personal opinion). Dr. Fishbaugh looked at my son's teeth and didn't seem too concerned-- he said he'll may need some orthodontic work but my husband and I figured he would.. I'm just planning on it. However, Dr. F said his front teeth really aren't out far at all. I've noticed that in the last couple of months, the finger sucking is getting less and less. Dr. Fishbaugh said to PRAISE him when he's NOT doing it. I've just decided I'm not fretting over it.
My 2 cents!
