Two unique programs:

Bats of the World 1:00-2:00 pm
Come and explore one of nature’s most misunderstood creatures in this all new multi-media presentation! Discover both megabats – the large fruit eating bats from the tropics – and the microbats – the smaller insectivorous bats that utilize echolocation to catch their prey. Live bats are featured for up-close viewing.

Animal Adaptations 3:00-4:00 pm
Discover the most fascinating features and adaptations of many nocturnal animals! This new multi-media program features live nocturnal animals including an owl, bat, sugar glider, and flying squirrel. It’s a great opportunity for up-close viewing of creatures that often go unseen.

Registration for Itsy Bitsy Yoga - Harris

Certified Itsy Bitsy Yoga instructor, Sara Bolen will lead an Itsy Bitsy Yoga class at Harris Branch Library on Monday, October 13 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. in the Children’s Activity Room.

Itsy Bitsy Yoga, based on the book by Helen Garabedian, is a calming and nurturing yoga class designed to help babies unfold their motor skills, sleep better, be happier, and digest with ease. The class will offer examples of poses that can be done at home to enrich the relationship between you and your little one. Please bring a blanket for baby to practice yoga on.

The class is suitable for babies birth to 9 months (non-crawling babies only). Space is limited. Registration is required and begins Monday, October 6. For more information, please inquire at Children’s Services Desk or phone 271-3179.

Wee Readers Lapsit Registration

Wee Readers Lapsit is a storytime at the downtown Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library for children aged 12 months to 23 months attending with their adult caregiver. Children must have celebrated their first birthday by the first program date: Thursday, October 23. This is a structured storytime that combines rhymes, fingerplays, songs, books, and sharing time to introduce children to the world of language.

This 4-week, 30-minute program will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. on these Thursday dates: October 23, 30, and November 6, 13.

Registration is required and begins Thursday, October 9 at 9:00 a.m. Register in person at the Children’s Services desk or call the downtown Mishawaka Library at 259-5277, ext. 242. The library cannot accommodate groups in this series of programs.

The next Friends of the Library book sale begins on Saturday, October 18 and continues through Wednesday, October 22, during regular library operating hours at the Bittersweet Branch Library.

Take advantage of these great sale prices. Hardcover books are 75¢, paperback books are 50¢, and recent magazines are three for 25¢. Videotapes are $1.00, CDs are $2.00, and DVDs are $2.50. Selected books are priced as marked. On the last day of the sale, Wednesday, October 22, all remaining books and magazines will sell for $2-a-bag!

Do you have extra books taking up space? Book donations are always welcome at all Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library locations and may be dropped off at Circulation Services during regular library hours. The Twilight Time Tales series pops up some flavorable fun on Tuesday, October 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Activity Room of the downtown Mishawaka Library. This month’s theme is “Pop Right in and Munch.” Meet a lonely dragon who proves how clever he can be in The Popcorn Dragon by Jane Thayer. Then learn how popcorn grows and make a popcorn craft.

Preschool children thru sixth graders can visit the downtown Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library on Friday, October 24 for a Frightful Friday of Halloween fun. Have a “ghoulish” good time at the craft table anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Watch as educators from the St. Joseph County Parks present “Things That Go Bump in the Night” from 3:00-3:30 p.m. Stories will be read in the Heritage Center jail cell at 1:20 p.m. and 2:20 p.m.

Children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes as they “trick or treat” each library department anytime between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Some of the special guests joining us this year for our “trick or treat” celebration include Burger King, Little Caesars, and the Old Country Buffet Bee!

[R]Kids Workshops - The Home Depot Stores

Kids Workshops are free "How-To Clinics" designed for children ages 5-12. The workshops are offered on the first Saturday of each month between 9:00 a.m. and noon at all The Home Depot stores. Children accompanied by an adult construct projects from pre-fabricated kits. The kits are designed to be both educational and practical.

The Home Depot's Kids Workshops offer useful projects including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, as well as more educational projects, such as a window birdhouse, bughouse or Declaration of Independence frame kit.
