my 18 month old developed a pimple like spot right on his butt where his diaper would lay. i had been debating moving up a size but 5's seemed so big. they sag right down to his knees. i switched them and the spot did go away but this bigger size is awful. it seems like i have to change him more often because it fills up and sags in less then a hour, its lose around his legs and have leaked several times, the top of the diaper is even damp, i have been using luvs and have been happy with them till now , do you think i may have moved up to quickly? should i go back to 4's? has anyone else had this experience? i try to take really good care of my sons butt and have avoided diaper rash so far but this is ridiculous! humm.....

brands

It may simply be time to try a different brand.  I know with my son, I tried Luvs when he was about a year old, and they always felt really wet compared to other brands.  Like you mentioned, they seemed to puff up when wet and sag really bad.  The pimple may not have necessarily been caused from the diaper, but it may have aggrevated it.  From my experience, both my kids were also ready for bigger diapers well before they outgrew the weight on the diaper packaging.  In fact, my 14 month old is already in 6's, and he's around 23 pounds.  When diapers start leaking, that's always been my cue it's time for a bigger size.

Diapers

I use either Huggies or an off Brand from Costco (I can only get them when I go home to visit family. The sizing and fit has always worked for my daughter. She's 14 months and weighs a little over 20lbs. She's currently in a size 3 but we're moving her to a 4. She started peeing through pampers at about 6 months old, so we made the switch to Huggies and have been pleased ever since.

Luvs

I have used Luvs with all 3 kids and never have had any leaking issues until they were ready to make the switch to a bigger size. You could try a different brand in a size 4 and see what happens. If the size 5 is sagging that much and is so loose around the legs, then it may be too big.

Kudos to you for escaping the "joys" of diaper rash! As I've learned over the years, it can be caused by many different things, like teething, eating certain foods, sickness, and diaper/wipe irritation, etc. I wouldn't be too overly concerned if it's one pimple. I remember my oldest daughter's whole bottom turning bright red after we used a certain kind of wipe when she was only a month old...that was the beginning of my friendship with A & D Ointment :)

Hang in there....
