Crying it out
For those of you who chose to let your kids cry it out, what age did you do it? I let Luke cry it out around 7 months. It was only at nap time, when he wanted to be held rather than napping in his bed. We rarely had bedtime issues, so we didn't really have to deal with it at night. Shawn is a different story. He's not quite 6 months. I usually hold him and rock him to sleep for naps, bad habit, I know! Overall, he is a pretty good sleeper....goes to bed without a problem, we don't have to go in his room often at night...but he does still wake up to eat anytime between 3 and 6 ish. After he eats, I hold and rock him till he falls asleep, and he USED to go back to sleep ok. The last few nights, he wakes up immediately when we put him down, then he cries wanting to be held. I don't mind doing it for nap time. It's a nice time to cuddle him, and it forces me to slow down and take a break. But I'm wondering if it's necessary to let him cry it out at night. For the sake of consistency, I will have to let him cry it out for nap time also. We did let him cry last night, and my stomach is still in knots. I just can't stand hearing him cry for so long! How many of you let your babies cry it out, and how long did it take for them to learn to calm themselves?

sorry
I wont be able to be much help on this one. When my son was born I dont think I ever put him down. I rocked him to sleep every night and he slept in our bed. I tried the whole letting them cry it out but the first time my husband and I tryed. I had to walk outside, it was so hard. He cryed for over 30 minutes before I finally took him back in our bed. I rocked him until I got pregnant. I know thats really bad. The same time I stopped rocking him we put him in his own room. I thought it was going to be so hard but its was actually really easy. I started off laying with him and now he does it all on his own. Most night he sleeps all night in his bed but some night he will get up about 6 and get in our bed, which my alarm goes off about then anyways so its no big deal. I thought it was going to be so hard but it was easy. I keeping telling myself this one will not sleep with me and I will not rock her sleep. I really am going to try sometime. I did babysit when I was in highschool for alittle boy just over a year and every night and during nap she told me to let him cry and it take no longer then 10 minutes and he was asleep. I watched him all summer and sometimes on the weekend in the evening and everything time he would cry but not for very long.
