So I am wondering if all babies cross their eyes and how long they do it for. My 6 week old does it and I am hoping its not something that will be permanent.. but its soo cute sometimes. If you have seen the picture on my account of her, thats not what she always looks like I just HAD to take a pic of it! I know some children who actually have this problem and I know it costs alot to have it corrected... I dont think she will have it, but could she get them stuck like that!?!?!?

reply to crossed-eyed

It's totally normal for your baby to cross her eyes, she's just trying to focus. If she's does it past 6-9 months though, I would get her eyes checked. They have a baby eye can see program, babies can get their first eye exam free.

mine did

Both of my boys crossed their eyes when they were very little.  I figured they were just trying to focus.  My guess is that is it very normal.  But if it concerns you, there is no harm is mentioning it to the doctor next time you take her. :)

normal

It is normal for them to do it at that age. However, my son who is almost 4 started to do that again a few months ago. We took him to have his eyes checked and found him to have 20/100. He was so farsided he had to get glasses. Since then he has no problems , but when he takes off his glasses for sleep, he will give me a goodnight kiss and his eyes will cross sometimes. But in babies they are just trying to focus and nothing to worry about. If it seems to be more common that the eyes are crossed then not, at the next check up I would ask about it.

Keep an eye on it!!

I would suggest keeping an eye on it and don't let it go for a long period of time, and I mean years. Your family physician will should also keep an eye on it too. I work for an opthomologist who specilizes in kids and typically things won't be done until they are a little older if they need surgery, but it's good to know how long it's been going on for and if they cross in or outward. It's nothing to worry about though. I just talked with my dad who is a Family Physician and he said if both eyes cross inward he would refer to a specialist after a few months, and if it was one eye turning in and not the other maybe sooner as it could be a muscle or something else.
