childs grandparents
I wish that we had active grandparents that were able to contribuate more. My mom died when my oldest was 4months old (she was only 50) my mother in law died when the oldest was 5 months old (she was only is her mid 60s). One grandpa is off consumed in his own life remarried once now divorced by her doing after 8 years and seeing a new friend (which seems to be much nicer that the past-wish he would have found her first) The other grandpa is like 78 and still working a full time job to help support the grandkids that live with him. We love them both but not super involved with the family. One is much better than the other when he can be around is sure is. When my oldest was like 3 she would ask women that were older and looked like grandmas if they would be hers, she so wanted a grandma. Love them while they are here.

Grandparents
Well my father died 5 years ago so he never saw his grandchild my mother is a drunk that's all she cares about and my Daughter's dad's side of the family the grandma lives too far away and she really doesn't care she never cared about her son let alone a grandchild. and the grandpa he has his own life and young kids to really care. and my husbands side well it's not there grandchild so they are not obligated to be part of her life. So my daughter doesn't have much of a grandparent either.
:(
I AM SORRY- ACTUALLY I WAS GOING TO SAY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU SAID. WE LIVE ABOUT 20 MINUTES AWAY FROM MY PARENT (DIVORCED) AND MY HUSBAND PARENTS. MY MOM ISNT THAT BAD WE SEE HER ABOUT EVERY OTHER WEEK, MOSTLY WHEN MY HUSBAND HAS TO WORK ON THE WEEKEND WE WILL GO VISIT. LATELY I GUESS I HAVE BEEN KINDA BITTER AND NOT TAKEN HIM THERE AS MUCH. MY BROTHER HAS A LITTLE GIRL (1 YEARS OLD) AND WHENEVER MY BROTHER IS THERE SHE IS LIKE AT HIS AND THE BABY SIDE AND DOESNT PAY ATTENTION TO US. MY MOM IS YOUNG ABOUT 50. SHE BABYSITS FOR MY BROTHER ALL THE TIME BUT EVERY TIME I ASK (LIKE ONCE EVERY 6 MONTHS OR SO) SHE ACTS LIKE ITS SUCH A BIG DEAL BUT SHE WILL CALL MY BROTHER TO SEE IF SHE CAN WATCH THE BABY, SO I HAVE BEEN KINDA BITTER LATELY. MY DAD WANTS TO BE OVERLY INVOLVED. BY THE TIME MYSELF AND HUSBAND GET HOME FROM WORK, COOK AND EAT DINNER, CLEAN UP, AND PLAY ALITTLE BIT ITS TIME FOR BATH AND BED, AND MY FATHER DOESNT UNDERSTAND THAT IT ISNT THAT WE DONT WANT TO SEE HIM BUT WE ARE JUST SO BUSY AND WE LOVE TO DO FAMILY STUFF ON THE WEEKEND, RENTING MOVIES, INDOOR PUTPUT (SINCE ITS GETTING COLD), GOING TO SEE MOVIES, JUST FUN STUFF. IF MY FATHER DOESNT SEE US ATLEAST ONCE A WEEK HE IS CALLING A COUPLE TIME A DAY AND GETTING MAD UNTIL WE FINALLY GET THERE TO SEE HIM. I LOVE SPENDING TIME WITH HIM BUT I WISH HE WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE BUSY AND NOT MAKE ME FEEL GUILTY FOR NOT SEEING HIM EVERY WEEK. MY HUSBANDS PARENTS ARE A LOT MORE UNDERSTANDING. ABOUT ONCE A MONTH WE ALL GET TOGETHER FOR DINNER, SHE CALLS MAYBE TWICE A WEEK TO TALK TO OUR SON SEE HOW SCHOOL IS GOING..ETC. ITS SO MUCH NICER THAT WAY. BUT ALL THE GRANDPARENTS ARE THERE FOR BIGS THINGS LIKE SPORTS, SCHOOL STUFF, HOLIDAYS, AND BIRTHDAY, SO I KNOW WE ARE LUCKY FOR THAT.
We are very lucky!
Mine and my husbands parents are both still living. We both also still have a set of grandparents, however his are in assisted living. I also have TWO great grandmothers, both are 94 and pretty active for their age!
My parents do live in Florida though. My mom visits pretty often, and my dad usually once a year. We go to Florida to visit them at Christmas, Spring Break, and sometimes late summer/early fall just for a few days. My grandparents live about 2 hours away, but they come here several times during the summer to visit, then they go to Florida for the winters. My husband's parents live in Granger, so we see them quite often.
We are very lucky that we have family that is so involved with our kids!!
