Last December Centennial Wireless sent me a letter saying the new technology they will be using won't be compatible with my current phone. They offered me a new phone for FREE because I've been with them so long. Seemed too good to be true...new phone, no contract to sign, and I didn't have to change my plan. I talked with customer service, and I was assured it was completely free. Great, so I took it. I noticed on my bill this morning I'm getting charged $1.99 for "enhanced invoicing." What the heck is that and where did it come from? I contact customer service via their live chat. Apparently it's just detailed billing. I asked her to check my acct and see how long I've been getting charged for it because I KNOW I opted out of that when I bought the plan 6 years ago. She says it was added in December when I got my new phone. WHAT? She immediately said, "I'm crediting your acct for $1.99 for each month you were charged. Is there anything else I can help you with?" I said YES, I want to know WHY I'm being charged in the first place...my plan wasn't supposed to change. She kept tip-toeing around the question letting me know she's giving me my money back. That's fine, but how do they just start charging me for something I didn't approve?? She said a CSR "overlooked" it when setting up my new phone because it's automatically added. Why is it automatically added? Nothing was supposed to change? Shouldn't stuff like that be something they try to upsell while switching the phone, not something that is automatically added and it has to be the CSR's responsibility to remove it? I wonder how many others are getting charged that $1.99 and aren't noticing it! Check you bills!

This probably wouldn't bother me so much if it was the first time this has happened. Last year I had to contact them about long distance charges on my phone. I have free long distance, so I should never see long distance charges. The little code said the calls were made FROM Mt. Pleasant Michigan. I've never even heard of Mt. Pleasant! The CSR argued and insisted I made the calls from Mt. Pleasant. She finally agreed to remove the charges. Next month, AGAIN, more long distance from Mt. Pleasant. The CSR still argued and told me there was nothing they could do because obviously I was making these calls. Funny enough, several of these calls were made while I was laying in the hospital giving birth at Memorial Hospital! I asked her if she would like to see my son's birth certificate and hospital bills to prove I wasn't hanging out in Mt. Pleasant making calls on my cell phone? She finally said she would remove the charges again as a "one time courtesy." Umm...I don't think so! OBVIOUSLY, there is something wrong on their end! This went on for 4 or 5 months before the charges finally stopped showing up.

My husband says they are trying to get rid of me because I have had the same plan for at least 6 years. I'm on one of those really old $25 a month plans, and I have like 600 minutes!

Anyway, check your cell phone bills and make sure they aren't sneaking any charges on there!

Sneaky

I have had problems with them too, but we don't want to switch for the simple fact that everyone in our family has Centennial so calls are free, but they have tried things to screw up our billing too (like charging us $50 to upgrade to a new plan with more minutes even when we weren't on a contract at the time and shouldn't have been charged!). It can be irritating but just hold your ground on the phone and give them heck if they try to mess with you.

Yes, they are good for

Yes, they are good for things like that. I must say though, that a computer person can get into your cell information and use it for their own number. I forget what it is called. Another company had to put a tracer on my brother in laws number to try to find where calls on his line were coming from (that is why they advise you to get the enhanced calling, so you can monitor the calls and what towers they are coming off of-very important-also if you do this and you use your phone for pleasure and business then you have the numbers and proof for tax purposes). Finally they found the problem and the copycat that was using his phone number. WOW ! what tech. has come too.

I struggled with Centennial when we first used them. Just wanted a phone that worked, no games or special features was ok with us. The phones they gave us wouldn't carry a call for even two minutes and would drop. Fought with them for two months before they finally decided to make it work with another rehabed phone. Told them I wouldn't pay my bill for a service that didn't work. AUGH! THey are nasty for a local company. We ran our contract out and then paid for another two years and dropped them because we didn't want a contract and they would do anything about a updated phone (ours were having trouble due to being worn out)I wasn't going to buy a 300 dollar phone and in a year have technology updated and have no phone again. We now have a prepaid for EMERGENCYS only. No general chit chat, and its worked out good. Cut our phone cost down and we have a lan line at home.
