I need some help here from all you garage sale go-ers!  I have done some more cleaning and have enough stuff to have yet another garage sale this summer, and I'm hoping it's not too late in the season to have a good turnout!

Is Labor Day weekend a big garage sale time?  I was thinking of Aug. 29 - 31, but I didn't know with it being a holiday weekend.

Also, what are the best days.  Thursdays & Fridays or Fridays & Saturdays?

What is the best time to open?  I know when I've opened at 8, they are parked in front of the house at 7:30, so is 7:00 a better time to open?

Thanks for your help :)

Saturdays!

I think Saturdays are the best days to have a garage sale. But I only say that because I work on Thursdays and Fridays so I'm not able to go...I also like to go out when there are a lot of garage sales and Saturdays seem to be the most popular day...
As far as doing it on a holiday weekend, I'm not really sure there, a lot of people usually have plans, going out of town or to cook outs and what not...But then as I say that I know every year we go to the blueberry festival which is labor day weekend, there are TONS of garage sales, which I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the traffic on the way...If you did it on Labor Day weekend I would say doing a Friday and Saturday would be a good idea...
And lastly, I think 730-8ish is the best time to open. If you start it at 7 then I'm sure people will show up at 6 something.
Hope that helps :-)

Thursday=most successful day thus far

I have had two garage sales this summer...the best day for both times were Thursday and Friday. Saturday was my slowest and when I am out garage saling and ask others they say that Thursday and Friday were their best days also.

Just an idea for you, also I always go out and look for good garage sales during holiday weekends and I am sure I am not the only one

Saturday only

My family hauls everything to my mom's because she lives on a main road in town and we have it on Saturday only and open around 8:30-9 whenever we finish eating our donuts :) and close around 4. We don't even advertise and still do really well and we have repeaters at every sale. We usually have two a year. We had one last Saturday and did really well and plan to have another one the weekend after Labor Day.

Holiday weekends work fine

We have had two this year on Saturday before Memorial Day and Saturday July 5. I was most worried about the second one since it was right in the middle of the holiday weekend, but it was plenty busy. We didn't pay for advertising, just the free ads on here and WNDU and we had a very steady stream of people. We always try to open at 8, but I think people arrive earlier in the morning on Fridays than Saturdays because both of my sales this year (Sat. only) took about 30 minutes or so to really get a lot of people stopping. When I have had sales multiple days, then I found that the first day is busy and each day slows a little because I had fewer items out to sell. People can tell from the street whether you have a lot to look at or not, so I don't think the day really matters all that much.
