Beef Stew

Description
My favorite beef stew. Made stove top or crock pot.
Ingredients
- 1 lb stew meat or other favorite steak/roast,cut into cubes
- 3 medium carrots(peeled and cut into desired pieces)
- 3 celery stalks(cut into desired pieces)
- 3 medium potatoes(peeled and cut into desired pieces)
- 1 medium yellow onion(cut into desired pieces)
- 1⁄2 c Flour
- 1 c water
- 1 c vegetable juice(v8)
- 3 cubed beef boullion
- 2 tsp Dried basil
Instructions
1. Coat the cubes of beef evenly in the flour.
2. Heat approx. 2 tbsp. oil in a dutch oven.
3. Place flour-coated beef in heated oil and cook until evenly browned.
*If using slow cooker, transfer browned beef to slow cooker now and follow remaining steps accordingly*
4. Add water, vegetable juice, boullion cubes, and basil.
5. Mix well.
6. When boullion is dissolved, add remaining ingredients and stir.
7. On stove top, bring to a gentle boil then cover and reduce to simmer.
In slow cooker just cover.
8. On stove - simmer for about 45 minutes.
In slow cooker - 6-8 hours on low and 3-4 hours on high.
9. If stew a thicker stew is desired, take 1/2 cup of hot broth from stew and add to it 1/4 cup flour and mix very well until it forms a sort of a paste. Add mixture to stew while stirring to blend.
10. Season to taste.
