So I have a 6 week old daughter and I am a mom for the first time. My problem is that everytime she poops it goes out of the diaper- mostly up her back!!! None of my friends have this problem with their new borns, and I dont know what is going on... I did get a bunch of off-brand diapers at my baby shower, and Im wondering if that might be the problem. Someone please give me some advice because my poor little sweety is tired of being a mess!!

poopy up the back!

Hi!

First, Congrats on your little baby girl!

My daughter (now 19 months old) had the same problem and I only had her in Pamper Swaddlers. She'd have a blow-out up her back, out of the side of her diaper.. didn't matter. I'm trying to think when it all stopped-- she was probably about 4-6 months old when it seemed to settle down. It wasn't with every poop but seemed about once a day or every other day. My son rarely had the problem and I had off-brand diapers with him and the Pampers. Hmm.. maybe it's a girl thing? :)

oh yea, i remember

switch diaper brands or she may need a size change. i had the same problem with my son. luvs worked the best for me they cover a bigger area. huggies seemed to be too narrrow and it went down his legs, pampers are the same as luvs. they actually make them. i used to use sams club brand till he became mobile then i had to switch. once he got moving he needed a stronger diaper. i learned to go by fit not by weight ( like the box says) i hope this helps good luck.

luvs

Try luvs, I love them. I started out using Huggies but I had a problem with them leaking so a friend at work told me to use luvs and I love them plus they are cheaper. And I agree dont go by the weight on the boxes go with how they fit. Bailey was in a size 3 when she was just 13 pounds and the box says 16 pounds.

made me smile . . .

Your post made me smile because the same thing used to happen to us all the time when our boys were infants. I agree with others . . . try a change in diaper or size. My husband always said he could make a bunch of money if he could invent a special kind of infant diaper that had protection higher up the back. :) Hmmmm . . . maybe one of us moms should jump on that idea! ;) Good luck!

agree

I agree with others, try a different brand....not all diapers work for all babies.  Also, we always knew when it was time to go up a size because we would start having leaks.  The size recommendations on the box are a joke, for my boys anyway.  They were always a size bigger than what the package says.

Once your sweet little girl stops pooping up her back, she will be old enough to remove her own diaper and she will have a lovely surprise when you go in to tell her good morning...hehe.  My 15 month old hasn't learned to take it off yet, but he sure can stick his hand down the back of his diaper and play in it.  That's always nice to wake up to. :)

diapers

The size is just a recommendation according to weights and not by the output for your baby. So if your little ones volume output is greater then bump up to the next size.

As far as having the poopy thing alot depends too if your breastfeeding. Breastfed babies stools are much softer for several weeks(be thankful-its better than having a baby that is constipated !) Its not fun to have to clean up but use the one on one time as a plus. A nice warm spunge bath is always nice. I always kept baby lotion near by too. You don't need to put it all over them (it sometimes clogs pours) just rub some between your hands and put a little on them or their clothes. It freshens them up too.

Good luck and congrats!

Poo Poo

So I am going to try a couple things- bigger diapers and LUVS :) And yes I am still breastfeeding, but only really in the morning and night because she drains me - so I give her a bottle during the day.. Had to go Soy because she had an allergic reaction to the purple Enfamil gentlease !!! And she was gasy and always spit up with the yellow enfamil.. So thanks for all the advice and if there are any more tips and tricks I should know for ANYTHING.. food, sleeping, baths, whatever... let me know!!
