Auto repair/Mechanic suggestions, please!
So, we've really only taken our car to one auto shop and we really only go there because they are conveniently located to our house. But, even though they do okay work, we are now fed up with their overcharging(they charge over $100 per hour on labor, and they seriously mark up their parts). So, we now NEED to get our second car a new fuel pump and since it's my hubby's work car it's crucial. I've been without a daytime vehicle for a few weeks now and can't stand it anymore. It's an early 90's model car so we obviously don't want to sink a bunch of money into it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Zolman's downtown
Although they are a bit pricey, we've had good luck with Zolman's - the downtown South Bend location. Mechanic is a hard one...one person may have good luck and be happy, while another may not be happy with the service.

But never take your care to Carborater and Ignition Service they have been there for over 50 years They are my Grandfather and Uncle and they will rip you off.

I HAVENT HAD ALOT OF CAR REPAIRS BUT THE ONES I DID HAVE WE TOOK OUR CAR TO JORDAN FORD WHERE WE GOT IT AND THERE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUCKS.

What I was 18 I bought a used car from Jordan's. Apparently the car had a "code" for the radio that reset when the battery was disconnected. Well, they never gave me the code when I bought it, and 6 months after buying the car, my dad did some work to it and had to disconnect the battery. Needless to say, my radio wouldn't work because I didn't have that code. I called them and they tried to tell me it wasn't their problem, and they were going to charge me $130 to hook it up to some machine and reset it. Yeah, I don't think so!

LAST YEAR WHEN JASON GOT IN
LAST YEAR WHEN JASON GOT IN THAT ACCIDENT WE FOUND A 2005 SANTA FE FOR A GOOD PRICE WITH ONLY 40000 MILES SO BOUGHT BUT THE BELT WAS MAKING NOISES SO THEY PROMISED TO FIX IT. WHEN WE WENT BACK TO PICK IT UP IT STARTED MAKING NOISES AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME SO WE TOOK IT BACK AND TURNS OUT ALL THEY DID WAS CLEAN IT SO NOW THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE IT SO WE HAD TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FOR. THEN ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO IT STARTED MAKING NOISES AGAIN BUT WITH THE BABY WE NEVER HAD TIME TO TAKE IT IN. WELL JASON FINALLY CALLED 2 WEEKS AGO AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A ONE YEAR WARRANT ON THE BELT SO WE TOOK IT BACK IN BUT OF COURSE THIS TIME THE PULLY WAS GOING BAD SO THAT IS WHAT IS MAKING THE BELT MAKE NOISES. I AM SURE THAT WAS WHAT WAS WRONG A YEAR AGO THEY JUST DID THE EASY FIX. SO $200 LATER ITS FINALLY FIXED.

Not Expert Tire!
Unfortunatly I do not know of a "good" place to take your car to. I luck out and my dad's work buddy is a mechanic. Although, I have taken my car to Expert Tire on Michigan Street in South Bend and I do not recommend them at all! I had my oil changed there and they forgot to put the cap back on. My oil had leaked out all over my engine. It was a huge mess! I said I would never go back there! I now go to Drive and Shine which I really like for the oil changes.
Good Luck! I know it's really hard to find a good trustworthy mechanic who won't screw you over.

You are probably from Southbend area but North Liberty has a great garage and really good prices normally. My husband last week had to change tires and called several places and there for the same thing did it for $100usd less. You should give them a call... you never know!

We use Dave's Garage
One of our cars is at Dave's Garage on South Main Street (near Donmoyer) right now. We have used them several times and my husband even bought parts online and had them install only because then we don't pay any markup. Normally they are really quick too but this time they didn't get to his car today probably because more cars are towed in on the weekend including his. Hopefully tomorrow though, it is really difficult to try and move everyone around to work, preschool and the sitter with only one car!
