Anyone know how to make bread?
Submitted by jessica on April 9, 2008 - 11:05pm.
I just realized my Kitchen Aid stand mixer has a dough hook, and I've been thinking of attempting to try making some bread anyway. Does anyone have any good recipes or tips for making good bread?

Sorry
I sure wish that I had one for you. But I normally buy the frozen dough and make it that way. Or I use my bread machine. Speaking of that I have not used it in awhile. Maybe I should get it out and make something with it.

Bread Machine . . . .
Although I haven't done it in a while, I like to make bread using my bread machine . .. but only through the "dough" cycle. Then I take it out and put it in a regular bread pan in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 deg. I like this much better because it is just like homemade bread, has a great end result, but the bread machine does all the kneading for me! If no one else responds with a good recipe, I can get some from my sister-in-law for you. She makes great breads and her daughters were even helping her for while and selling them on the side. I always use my bread machine for the first part, so my recipes would probably not help you.

bread machine
Growing up, I remember my parents using their bread machine alot, and it was always fun. I thought about buying one, but then while I was cleaning, I found the dough hook for my mixer. Soooo, I figured if I could find a good recipe (and some good guidance :), I could test my skills at making some :) Who knows, it may be more work than it's worth, but I'll try.

Good Bread Recipe
My mom was good Greman Stock and they owned bakeries in northern MIchigan.. This is one of hers. Can be used in a bread machine. Or mixed up to bake in the oven.
If you are using a bread machine you need to put the ingredients in the machine in order.
Here you go Ladies!
1 1/2lb loaf
1 cup milk, 1 Tbls margarine, 3 cups Bread Flour
1 Tbls sugar, 3/4 tsp salt, 1 pkg Yeast. Run the machine through dough cycle, let it rise for 1 hour(in a warm place). and then put in your own bread pan and back 350 deg for 55-60 minutes.
Mixer:
Add all ingredients in bowl then start adding flour slowly and continue to mix. Let dough rise for 1 hour (in a warm place) and bake at 350 deg for 55-60 minutes..
You can make in bread machine and let it go through the whole cycle and bake in the machine too.

you should try...
If you decide to buy the bread machine one day... make your own pizza dough, and you can make it just the way you like it and really cheap! Try to find one machine in the garage sale this summer even better!
Bread
Jessica, Do you have a Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book? That has some really great and easy bread recipes. I love the dough hook because you can use it to pretty much do the entire process including the kneading of the bread if you let it go long enough. However, I like to knead bread because it's a great stress reliever so don't mix it all the way and then knead it by hand. You'll feel great after kneading a loaf of bread for about ten minutes.
I think I might!
We got a nice cookbook for a wedding or shower gift, I think. I will have to look for it, but Better Homes & Gardens sounds familiar.
Thanks! Maybe I will knead the dough by hand. It's like Rachel Ray likes to use a huge frying pan to pound out chicken for stress relief...haha! :)
