Anyone a cat owner ?
For you cat owners out there, what kind of cat litter do you use? Or what do you do to control it from making a mess everywhere? Right now our space is very limited (we live in an apt) but we keep the box under our sink in the bathroom and I bought this tracking mat at Target and it doesnt do anything. Cat litter ends up all over the bathroom floor and its so gross and I have to sweep the bathroom floor a few times every day. So I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has a good secret to keeping cat litter from tracking everywhere or if you use a certain kind of litter. Thanks:)

Cats
I live in a very small 2 bedroom apartment I never thought of putting the litter box under the sink so you keep the sick cabinet open all the time or is there not cabinet? I use a Tidy cat mix half for multiple cats and the other half Small Spaces I couldn't decide which was best so I mixed them. I cannot stand smell. And I use a cat litter deodorizer. I have one of those matt's and they do not work I think they work some but still not enough I have no idea I just sweep a lot. I though about a small Berber rug to help catch it but cats don't step out of the boxes most of the time they leap causing it to go everywhere. So If you find something better let me know please.
I keep the litter box in the closet where the water heater is at
it's just off of the kitchen and i hate it there.
I have a cabinet and then
I have a cabinet and then also a small space right under the sink that is open so I keep the box there, heck I wish I could keep it in the cabinet and the cat knew how to open the cabinet, that would be nice :-) I've thought about buying one of those new cat boxes ( I believe by Tidy Cats) and they are foam pellets and there is a tray you take out daily or weekly that holds the urine. I figure that probably wouldn't track as much but the downfall with that is first all of I think they would cost a lot more money buy having to buy the pads and pellets and then also there is no cover. My boyfriend also mentioned maybe getting a carpet piece, maybe that would work....
litter problems
Do you use clumping litter or gravel? My experience is that the clumping litter is worse with tracking it everywhere. Especially when the cat steps in "wet" the clumping stuff sticks to there paws. The larger gravel seems to fall of more either before they leave the box or at least on the mat outside the box. Also Tidy cat makes a litter that looks like plastic gravel that is probably more expensive but it looks cleaner. I have yet to try it. But a bathroom rug outside the litter box sounds like a good trick. I may try that. I just do a lot of vacuuming right now!
Yes, I do use the clumping
Yes, I do use the clumping litter. If the Tidy Cats plastic looking stuff is that Crystal litter, I would not recommend it. I thought spending the extra money would do good but I thought it made the smell stand out so much more! I swear I cleaned out the whole box and put baking soda on the bottom then covered with the crystals and by the evening my bathroom reaked! It'll be nice one day if I ever get some more room and it won't be so hard being confined to one tiny little area. Good Luck :)
Eliminate smell
We bought at Wal-Mart these little mesh bags with some type of gravel in them that absorbs cat litter smell. They work wonders! When they don't work anymore, lay them in the sun for a few hours and they are like new. Sorry I can't think of the name of the product.

Your sister is brillant
Yeah your sister is BRILLANT for telling you about that mesh bag, huh? What's her user name, angie22? Yeah that's it. As far as the litter box goes, a friend of mine who lived in a small apt. bought a litter box with the dome lid on it. It helps prevent the cat from jumping out of the box and spilling the crystals. I have never tried it because my cats are too fat and finky to go inside it. Maybe this would work for yours though? Hope this helps.
Cats in aparments
We have lived in our apartment for almost a month now. And I cannot find a good place for the cat box. I have it in our bathroom right now. Dont have space under neath a cabinet. Too bad for that.

litter box with a hood
I found using a litter box with a hood seems to keep the litter in the box. I do not know if this would fit under your sink though. On ebay and amazon they sell a litter box that is a faux plant pot. Its pretty cool looking. I do not know if it would be appealing to have a litter box in the living room but thought I would suggest it if you are looking to move the box somewhere else.
