The allowance thread got me thinking, what kinds of chores do your kids have and how old are they?

It definitely depends on age

My 4 year old just has to pick up toys, hang up his coat when we get home, and try to listen to other instructions... try is the key word there. That is why he doesn't get an allowance yet though because he might listen to half of my instructions but by the time he walks down to the playroom in the basement he has forgotten what to do when he gets there. My 7 year old is supposed to make his bed each day, keep his floor picked up daily (and clean his room once a week), get clothes ready for school the night before, clean the toilets and wipe off the sinks with Clorox wipes, take out the trash and recycling as needed, help pick up dog piles in the yard and he is also responsible for his homework of course.

4 year old

My 4 year old actually really likes helping clean. Saturdays when dad is at work is my cleaning day and he really helps. Of course first he has to pick up all his toys/books/puzzles and put them away (daily). He knows after dinner you put the food you didnt eat in the trash and plates in the sink. I hate my dishwasher so I wash the dishes most of the time and he LOVES helping me so I let him, he washes the cups for me and rinses the rest. I dont ask him to help but he likes to so why not. He also helps me with laundry. I will take the clothes out of the washer and hand them to him and he puts them in the dryer and pushes the buttom to turn it on. Also, I use those lysol wipes to clean all the tables. He love to use those. He helps me clean off the tables in the living room and his playroom table. Wow, it sounds like he does so much but he loves to help so why tell him no there will come a day where he wont want to do it anymore.
