Afrin for congestion
I asked my doctor and he said Afrin nasal spray is safe to use while breastfeeding. I'm not usually a huge fan of nasal sprays, but I'm sold on this! I can't see I will ever need to take any kind of cold med ever again! It cleared up my nose almost immediately, and it really does last the 12 hours the package says! I even bought the WalMart brand for $1.94. Beware, the package says 2 - 3 sprays per nostril, but I only need ONE, otherwise it dries my nose out so bad, it's more miserable than being stuffy. It made my nose so runny, but I would rather blow my nose 1,000 times a day and know I'm getting the yuckies out than be so stuffy. For me, this is a great find because I'm not one to take alot of cold meds unless I really have to because they actually make me feel worse. Anyway, I know there are a few moms who are breastfeeding and are sick, so just wanted to share what I found :) Get well everyone!

Just be careful, it's very
Just be careful, it's very addictive. If you use it more than the directions say, you can get to the point where your nose will never be the same without it. It shrinks the membranes in your nose so you can breathe better! I love the stuff too, I'm just careful to only use one spray (cuz that's all you need) and only for a day to two at a time!
figures!
I find something that seems like the miracle cure, and its addictive! I have been using it 1 - 2 times a day (1 spray) since Saturday. It is ok to use a few more days until this congestion passes?
I'm always SO careful, and hardly ever take anything when I'm sick. Cold meds always make me feel terrible, and it seems like I get over things quicker if I just let it run its course. But I'm at home with 2 small kids, and this is THE worst cold I can remember, and I have to take something! Is there something else you would recommend that would be better? It's just a head cold, no fever or cough...just plain old congestion (and a little bit of a sore throat)...oh and a horrible headache, yes, and an ear ache! haha...worse than I thought, I guess :) BTW, I'm breastfeeding, so gotta have something safe for baby!
Thanks for the info. I'm glad we have a nurse around!! :)

It's a catch 22. I love
It's a catch 22. I love afrin and do use it myself. You are correct that it's about the only thing that works for a good cold. I would say if you are using 1 spray a couple of times a day, a few more days won't hurt, but don't use it again for awhile if you can help it. After you aren't sick that is!!!
You're welcome for the info. I'm an OB nurse so there is alot I don't know about most things, but I can always find the answers by asking around at work!
