Acid Reflux
I have a 4 month old daughter who started crying durning and after eating. I told her doc. durning her well care visit, and she said it sounds like acid reflux. She gave me sample med's that did not seem to work. I called her and she switched to a new medicine
prevacid. I am not sure that it is working, she has real good days then other times she cant be made happy. I will be the first to say she is spoiled so it is hard to tell when she is cring over pain or just wanting to be held. Any advice... I really dont like giving her med's at her age.
Thank you

allergies
Our now 4 year old was the same way, finally at 7 months we had him allergy tested, what a relief....however he had skin problems also. is she formula or breast fed and have you given her any other baby foods? good luck...
She is now bottle fed, I
She is now bottle fed, I couldnt fill her up with breast feeding so we only did that for about a month. We do give her baby food also. She eats like a horse, and really gets excited when she sees her food coming so I feel like it cant be hurting her that much. I dont want to put my baby thru a bunch of test's ( upper g i and such) but I am just not sure she needs this medicine. Did you give your son med's before the allergy test?
tests
My son was the same way. We went in for a very simple ultrasound that showed the tube from his stomach to his small intestine had a slight bulge, which was forcing the food back up, resulting in projectile vomiting and lots of spit up. They couldn't tell exactly how bad the muscle was blocking the tube from the u/s, so we did a barium swallow, and it actually showed the liquid moving through his system. In our case, our dr. felt the best option wasn't surgery, but to wait it out, call it reflux and treat it with meds. He is almost 11 months, and we are finally seeing an end in sight! He does still spit up some, but I think we are close to being able to go without the meds (Zantac). If the opening is blocked too much by that muscle, it's called pyloric stenosis. Google it, and you'll get some good info, and you will be educated when you talk to your dr. Also, the first thing our dr. felt for when we mentioned the projectile vomiting was an olive-sized knot in his tummy, which you may even be able to feel for. I know I read about that too when I did a really quick internet search.
What kind of formula are you using? We also had to supplement with formula, and we started out with alimentum, which was ok for him (hard on the pocketbook though). We did switch to soy Enfamil not too long after starting formula, and it works for him.
Good luck

Also
Did this just start, or has it been since she was born? Also, have you tried taking away all solids for a few days to see how she does with only her formula?
I'm no dr., but if it is allergies to something she's eating, that would be a good start, unless it's an allergy to her formula. At least you could start to narrow it down that way.

Formula
My son start also around that time and the doctor suggest to change to soy formula and to use Dr. Brown bottles and to wait for the solid food until 6month age; we never had any problem after that. Jessica as good points with formula & food, it's worth the try.
Acid Reflux
My son who will be 4 in July was a very colicy baby and would projectile spit up seriously...it was a mix of colic and acid reflux...(I have acid reflux myself and take protonix) but Isaac took Zantac liquid and they have switched him to a 15 mg..disolvable pill of previcid and it works wonders...the Zantac tastes like aluminum my pediatrician says...if we dont give Isaac it every day he gets acid reflux sooo BAD he throws up at least 4 times a week but I have seen a huge relief and difference on medicines for acid reflux..I know it is extremely painful for me so I cant imagine a 4 year old ..I think when it did bother him all toddlers know to do is throw up so its out of them...but the medicines work so GREAT....Good luck your baby could be a little colicky(gassy) mixed with acid reflux/ I had to use the Platex Vent Air bottles when he was a baby and those didnt seem to help really that much...
