1 year old only wants baby cheeto's to eat! Help!!
Hi. I am actually asking for my daughter. She has a 1 yr old girl (just turned 1 today!) and is getting concerned. Kaitlin doesn't want to eat anything but baby cheetos! I've watched several times on the webcam (they live in Kansas)...and she tries the spoon w/baby food and all sorts of people food and Kaitlin will pick and eat 5 bites maybe----then she gets fussy and cries and wants OUT of her chair! If my daughter gave in every time, she would only eat the cheetos (but she doesn't give in). She looks perfectly healthy and is in her weight category...probably from the milk!?!? She is willing to taste everything---but usually ends up just PLAYING with her food.
Any suggestions?????
I told my daughter "ha ha---YOU were just the same". Of course i was teasing. She WAS the same,,,very fussy---the DR's back then told me to just let her eat what she will (which was PB&J most of her life!!). My daughter doesn't want her child to end up with poor eating habits and overweight. HELP!
Thank you.
PS...Kaitlin has been off formula for approx 1 month now. She is VERY spoiled and never really goes anywhere, her mom stays home with her 24/7...Dad is gone a lot (in the Army). :)

happy birthday!
First of all, Happy Birthday to Kaitlin :)
We have a 1 year old (14 months), and some days I also wonder what he goes on. He also plays with his food, looks right at us and throws it on the floor, tosses his milk on the floor, taps his sippy cup on the high chair tray to make "puddles" of milk, then splashes in them, refuses to eat something he couldn't get enough of yesterday.....it is very frustrating!
Our dr. has told us before that their bodies are good at sensing when they need nutrition, so the best we can do sometimes is just offer a variety of healthy food, and 5 bites is better than nothing. When they start going through a growth spurt, more than likely they will eat more.
We also found with our first that sometimes he would prefer 5 smaller meals, rather than 3 big meals. I would say as long as her doctor says she is healthy, keep offering her healthy foods and hopefully she will grow out of her finicky ways.

Eat
When my oldest was that age he loved sweet potatoes. He would cry if you didn't get them for him every meal! And its hard to reason with a 1 year old. Actually, not sure if it can be done. Anyways... i spoke to my doctor about it and he stated to mix the sweet potatoes with other foods and slowly stop serving them until he eats more foods again. I also feed him smaller meals just more in a day. Their stomaches are smaller than ours and the doctor told me that was best instead of trying to do 3 large meals a day. He also told me they will eat if they are hungry enough. So after awhile I stop giving him any sweet potatoes for a month. Once I gave them back he didn't even care for them anymore.
Good Luck!
